Job Summary:
This is a hybrid Quality Engineer–Quality Manager role designed for a flexible small manufacturing environment where the Quality function is lean and highly hands-on. The role combines daily tactical quality engineering duties with higher-level quality system ownership, customer-facing communication, and continuous improvement leadership. The ideal candidate is comfortable working on the shop floor, solving problems directly with operators and suppliers, while also managing the broader quality system, audits, metrics, and strategic initiatives. This is a high-impact role requiring a proactive problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving a different problem every day, and takes initiative on improving what is broken.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality System & Compliance
- Develop, refine, and improve the company’s QMS (ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 / AS9100 as applicable).
- Lead internal audits, corrective actions, and document control.
- Ensure compliance with internal procedures, regulatory requirements, and customer standards.
- Own quality documentation, work instructions, and process flow diagrams.
Operational Quality / Engineering Duties
- Lead root cause analysis (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone) and implement effective corrective actions.
- Support incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities; develop inspection standards.
- Perform gage R&R, capability studies, and validate measurement systems.
- Create and maintain control plans, quality alerts, and operator training materials.
- Drive scrap reduction, rework elimination, and process improvement projects.
Customer & Supplier Interface
- Primary quality point of contact for customers—manage/coordinate complaints, returns, warranty evaluations, and PPAP/FAI submissions.
- Communicate containment actions, investigation findings, and long-term corrective actions, as needed.
- Work with suppliers to resolve incoming material issues and improve performance.
- Conduct supplier assessments and support development initiatives when needed.
Leadership & Management Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily work of quality technician.
- Set quality KPIs, gather appropriate data, and post KPI’s are required.
- Champion a culture of quality and continuous improvement throughout the shop.
- Lead cross-functional teams on improvement projects, cost reduction, and risk mitigation.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field is preferred (this can be bypassed if the candidate has extensive hands-on experience, with a proven ability learn new responsibilities).
· 3–7 years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment.
· Strong understanding of quality tools: 8D, 5-Why, FMEA, SPC, MSA, PPAP, APQP, Etc.
· Experience with ISO 9001 and internal auditing.
· Ability to read engineering drawings and use measurement equipment.
· Excellent communication skills with both customers and internal teams.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, resource-lean environment.
