Estimator – SHIP REPAIR
Essential Functions & Purpose
Develop accurate labor and material estimates for shipboard/shop work and repairs on Government vessels. This includes interpreting drawings/specifications, conducting on-site ship checks for interference/access issues, and evaluating subcontractor quotes. Reliable, on-site attendance is essential.
Position Requirements
Education/Training:
- BA/BS in a related field, or
- AA/AS 2 years of relevant experience, or
- 6 years of directly related experience.
Experience:
- Deep knowledge of shipboard nomenclature and systems.
- Familiarity with labor and material requirements for ship repair/maintenance.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications and communicate with clients for clarification.
- Use of cost reports and field observations to improve estimate accuracy.
- Proficient in cost estimation software and data retrieval systems.
- Willingness to travel and work extended/weekend hours as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to board vessels, climb ladders, crawl, kneel, crouch, and stoop.
- Sitting, standing, walking, and hearing are essential.
- Must be capable of working in confined spaces and extreme environments (hot, cold, dusty, noisy).
- Use of standard PPE required.
Working Relationships
- Reports to the Contracts Manager.
- Coordinates with estimators, schedulers, supervisors, subcontractors, vendors, and customers.
- No direct supervisory responsibilities.
Principal Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates including labor, materials, rentals, and subcontracts.
- Conduct ship checks and inspections.
- Prepare subcontracts and requisitions.
- Support proposal submittals with detailed breakdowns and schedules.
- Coordinate with Subcontracts Group and production teams to resolve issues.
- Adhere to company standards and ethical conduct.
Accountability
- Responsible for estimate accuracy and timeliness.
- Accountable to the Contracts Manager.
Equipment Used
- Desktop Computer
Unique/Additional Requirements
- Must qualify for a CAC or RapidGate badge.
- Must have a strong attendance record and be punctual.
- Capable of up to 30% travel, including international.
- Must navigate all areas of shipyard and vessel environments safely.
