Position Summary: The Senior Director of HR partners closely with the Senior Pastor and Strategic Leadership Team to advance HR initiatives that support Venture’s mission of helping people find and follow Jesus. This role collaborates across all levels of the organization to develop and implement HR strategies aligned with organizational priorities and values, fostering unity and a healthy workplace culture. With oversight of all HR functions for both the church and school, the Senior Director also serves as the liaison to the Elder Board on HR-related matters. At Venture Christian Church the Senior Director of Human Resources position may be considered a licensed ministry position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct all HR operations, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, leave management, and employee separations.
  • Manage HR systems (HRIS), ensuring accurate employee data and efficient processing of all employment-related transactions.
  • Oversee benefits strategy and programs, including broker/vendor relationships, new hire and annual open enrollment, COBRA administration, and retirement plan coordination.
  • Conduct comprehensive annual benefits review with broker and compensation committee in preparation for open enrollment.
  • Manage key outside relationships including employment attorneys, benefits brokers, HRIS vendor, retirement plan record keeper, and retirement plan advisor.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain and update employee handbooks, organization charts, and HR policies and procedures.
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims and related documentation.
  • Foster positive employee relations by addressing concerns, resolving conflicts, and advising managers on sensitive personnel matters.
  • Provide coaching, counseling, and training to managers and employees.
  • Design and implement professional development and training programs, including onboarding, leadership development, and compliance training.
  • Plan and execute staff development initiatives, including annual retreats and organization-wide training efforts.
  • Support a culture of engagement through staff activities, communications, and events.
  • Plan and manage the Human Resources budget.
  • Oversee performance management processes, including annual reviews, and coach managers on effective performance practices.
  • Lead the development and administration of compensation programs, including salary structures, pay philosophy, and benchmarking analysis.
  • Collaborate with the Compensation Committee and leadership on annual compensation reviews, off-cycle adjustments, promotions, and executive hiring.
  • Partner with the Head of School to review compensation and present recommendations to the School Board subcommittee.
  • Oversee annual employment agreements for all school employees.
  • Prepare reports, metrics, and analysis to support strategic decision-making and organizational effectiveness.
  • Manage HR and front office staff, setting priorities and ensuring effective delegation of responsibilities.
  • Lead HR projects and initiatives, ensuring timely execution and alignment with organizational goals.

Qualifications – Education, Skills, Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; minimum of 10 years of progressive HR leadership experience.
  • Broad expertise across HR functions, including employee relations, compensation, benefits, and employment law.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
  • Strong commitment to personal and professional growth.
  • Positive attitude, solid problem-solving skills, keen attention to detail, and quick responses in fast-paced settings.
  • Competent in Microsoft and Google Suite.
  • Positive, collaborative, and inspiring leader with high emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity and adapt to change.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and ability to handle confidential information with professionalism.
  • Able to meet and abide by the church’s policy and procedures, including safety and security.
  • Experience with HR systems; familiarity with ADP Workforce Now preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with strong business acumen.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, speak, hear, read, and use a computer. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to lift 25 lbs., open filing cabinets, bend, stand, or climb on step ladders as necessary.

Work Schedule:
Generally, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. or as scheduled by manager to meet position or program requirements. On occasion, weekends or holidays to support all-church events.
