THE NEED

PROMOTIONAL & OPEN OPPORTUNITY

To fill a vacancy, 8 hours per day, bilingual required (Spanish), 215 days per year calendar at Balboa Middle School. The established list will remain in effect for six (6) months. THE POSITION

Below is a summary of the basic function of the position and scope of responsibilities. Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform accurate and technical attendance accounting and record-keeping for Adult Education; operate a computer and assigned software to enter and update attendance information; serve as a liaison between students, parents, staff and outside agencies regarding District attendance policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

THE CANDIDATE

Education And Experience

Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of clerical experience in an educational environment or closely related setting. Experience working with school district attendance policies and procedures is highly desirable.

THE DETAILS

Testing Information

The examination process may be comprised of multiple-choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the job description.

Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications for the position will be mailed/emailed an examination pass. Exam passes will not be sent until after the closing date for the position. A photo ID and the examination pass are required for admittance to the exam.

Step 1: Application Screening (pass/fail) Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications. Applications will be evaluated and ranked according to criteria that most closely meet the needs of the department, so it is essential that applicants provide as much detail as possible and answer all parts of the application, including work experience and the supplemental questionnaire. If there are a high number of qualified applicants, a comparative screening will be conducted to determine which of the applicants will be selected for invitation to the performance examination.

Results of the screening will be emailed. Applicants who pass the screening portion of the examination process will be given further instructions. Notifications will not be sent until after the closing date for the position.

Step 2: Performance Exam (weighted 50%) tentatively scheduled for July 8, 2026. Applicants will may be required to work through exercises using Microsoft Office, Word and Excel, which simulate the tasks an Attendance Technician is expected to perform day-to-day. Applicants must pass the performance examination to move forward to the next step, (qualifications appraisal interview).

Step 3: Bilingual Exam (written and oral) tentatively scheduled for July 15, 2026; those that pass the written portion will then be invited to participate in the oral exam scheduled for directly after the written exam. Applicants must pass both portions of the bilingual examination to move forward to the next step, (Qualifications Appraisal Interview).

Step 4: Qualifications Appraisal Interview (weighted 50%) tentatively scheduled for July 22, 2026. All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process to be placed on the eligibility list.

Additional Salary Information

New Hires – Initial Salary Placement

Education

The district has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the district. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria:

  • Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of experience related to the classification)
  • Additional education at the college level beyond the educational requirements established for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of education related to the position)

All new hires placed at Step 1 of the salary schedule will advance to Step 2 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period.

Longevity increments are offered based on years of service with the district: an additional 1.20% of base salary after completing 4 years of service, 4.10% at 9 years, 7.08% at 14 years, 10.15% at 19 years, 13.31% at 24 years, 16.46% at 29 years.

Promotional and/or transfer candidates will be placed at the appropriate step in accordance with established Personnel Commission Rules & Regulations.

Education Incentives

All active, regular classified employees are eligible for an education incentive if they possess a college degree which is related to their classification and is above and beyond the stated minimum qualifications for their classification.

AA/AS = 2.50%

BA/BS = 4.00%

MA/MS = 5.00%

Ed.D./Ph.D./JD = 6.00%

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (Upon Offer Of Employment)

  • Employment Verification: The Immigration Reform and Control Act requires that the district obtain documentation from every individual who is employed which verifies identity and authorizes his/her right to work in the United States.
  • Individuals selected for employment are required to submit to a tuberculosis risk assessment, and, if risk factors are identified, would then be required to submit to a tuberculosis examination to determine freedom from tuberculosis.
  • The district reserves the right to require a job-related physical examination and satisfactory results from such an exam.
  • Fingerprinting: State law requires that all employees be fingerprinted. AB1610 prohibits employment until the Department of Justice completes its obligations regarding the arrest and conviction information, and from employing a person who has been convicted of a violent or serious felony, as defined.
  • All candidates with a conviction record for offenses other than minor traffic violations must file a conviction record statement with their application. Such a conviction, or failure to report a record of convictions, may bar you from employment.
  • Other: Eligibles will be required to provide a current DMV report and/or proof of auto insurance to the Classified Human Resources Department before being certified for a final selection interview for positions that require the employee to drive a district vehicle and/or hold a valid California driver's license.

Approximately 14 paid holidays per year.

VACATION

Vacation is earned based on assigned hours. (For example: a new employee working 8 hours/day, 12-months per year will earn one vacation day per month, up to a total of twelve (12) days of vacation per

year. Employees who work less than 12-months per year or less than 8 hours/day shall be entitled to a prorated share of vacation benefits as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.) Vacation earned increases with years of service with the district.

SICK LEAVE

The district provides for 1 day of illness leave per month worked, with unlimited accumulation for unused days.
