Our client, a privately held and multi-entity manufacturing company based in Dearborn, MI, is seeking a Corporate Controller to join their team. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and close processes.
This position is ideal for a hands-on, execution-focused leader and brings strong experience managing transactional accounting functions across a team.
The role is fully onsite.
Requirements of the Corporate Controller:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA strongly preferred (not required with equivalent experience)
- 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including prior Controller-level responsibility
- Manufacturing industry background required; steel or industrial processing strongly preferred
- Background in both public and private accounting strongly preferred (Big 4 a plus)
- Prior experience managing teams of 5 (including AP, AR, billing, and general accounting staff)
- Strong GAAP knowledge and month-end close leadership experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general ledger systems
- Exposure to S-Corp tax structures and year-end tax projection coordination
Responsibilities of the Corporate Controller:
- Oversee month-end close and preparation of internal financial statements
- Supervise six direct reports (AP, AR, billing, and general accountants)
- Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure GAAP compliance
- Support external accountants on year-end tax filings and projections
- Evaluate and improve internal controls and financial processes
- Utilize MIS for accounting activities and Paylocity for payroll coordination
- Collaborate on budgeting, forecasting, and basic financial planning
- Serve as a liaison with external partners, including auditors and tax advisors
- Drive team development and support a culture of continuous improvement
- Work onsite daily within a manufacturing-connected office environment
