Controls Engineer

Minimum 3 Years of Controls Engineering Experience


Venteon is currently seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to fill an opening with a manufacturing company located in Old Fort, NC. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in PLC/HMI programming and troubleshooting, automated manufacturing equipment, electrical controls, robotics, and industrial networking.


Requirements of the Controls Engineer

  • Minimum 3 years of Controls Engineering or related industrial automation experience
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Siemens, and/or Omron PLC/HMI systems
  • Strong knowledge of PLC ladder logic, relay logic, motor controls, electrical distribution, and operator interfaces
  • Ability to read, interpret, and update electrical schematics and drawings
  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting automated manufacturing equipment
  • Knowledge of robotics, hydraulics, pneumatics, vision systems, and machine controls
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Profibus, RS-232, DeviceNet, and DH
  • Knowledge of machine and plant networking systems
  • Experience integrating barcode scanners, cameras, sensors, and other devices into PLC-controlled equipment
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with OEMs on new equipment design, installation, and integration
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar design software
  • Basic PC hardware, software installation, and troubleshooting experience
  • Basic LAN/TCP-IP networking knowledge, including switches, cabling, and routers
  • Experience supporting network printers, label printers, and handheld scanners
  • Basic Active Directory knowledge is preferred
  • Visual Basic or other software development experience is a plus
  • Experience with injection molding, urethane reaction injection molding, vacuum forming, paint systems, laser scoring, water jets, sonic/vibration welding, or similar manufacturing processes is a plus


Responsibilities of the Controls Engineer

  • Update, modify, troubleshoot, and continuously improve existing automated control systems
  • Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, robotics, motor controls, operator interfaces, and related automation equipment
  • Design and develop new machine controls involving electrical, robotic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and vision applications
  • Provide controls and electrical support for production equipment, including injection molding presses and associated robotics
  • Troubleshoot equipment and controls issues to minimize downtime and maintain production
  • Work closely with Engineering and Maintenance teams on equipment modifications, controls upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Integrate barcode scanners, cameras, sensors, and error-proofing/poka-yoke systems into existing equipment
  • Support machine and plant networking systems
  • Work with OEMs to ensure new equipment meets facility safety, electrical, and controls standards
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, productivity, and cost efficiency
  • Maintain controls systems at acceptable performance and reliability levels
  • Stay current with evolving automation technologies and independently learn new devices and control platforms as equipment is upgraded
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Salary : $100,000 - $140,000
