Velocity Trade Partners is a rapidly growing investment platform dedicated to acquiring and scaling market-leading plumbing and home-services businesses. We are seeking an entrepreneurial, business-minded General Counsel to join our team as the firm's sole in-house legal counsel.

In this high-visibility, senior-level role, you will work directly alongside our Managing Partner, investment team, and portfolio leaders. Rather than operating within a traditional legal department, you will sit at the center of deal execution, risk management, and strategic growth. You will take full ownership of building our legal function, driving M&A transactions, and supporting our expanding multi-state portfolio of operating companies.

Key Responsibilities

• M&A & Deal Execution: Serve as legal lead across the acquisition lifecycle—conducting diligence, negotiating LOIs/purchase agreements, directing outside counsel, and overseeing post-closing integration.
• Strategic Business Partnering: Provide practical, commercial legal advice to leadership, balancing risk management with business momentum to achieve platform growth objectives.
• Portfolio Legal Support: Counsel portfolio company presidents and operators on daily legal issues, including commercial contracts, employment matters, regulatory compliance, and licensing.
• Legal Infrastructure & Systems: Build standardized contract templates, entity management protocols, M&A playbooks, and compliance frameworks designed for scalable growth.
• Outside Counsel Management: Select and oversee specialized external legal partners while managing overall legal budgets efficiently.

What You Bring

• Credentials: J.D. from an accredited law school and active admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
• Experience: 7 years of corporate legal experience, with heavy emphasis on M&A, private equity, or complex commercial transactions.
• Commercial Mindset: Strong business judgment with the ability to translate complex legal risks into clear, actionable advice for non-attorney executives.
• Entrepreneurial Drive: Comfort operating in a fast-paced setting with incomplete information, prioritizing critical paths over minor details.
• Communication: Clear, persuasive written and verbal communication skills built for working directly with business owners, operators, and institutional partners.
