Overview

As a Lead Technician Advisor in the Paint and Body Department, your primary role is to provide expert guidance and support to technicians working on classic American vehicles in a fast-paced production environment. You are responsible for troubleshooting technical challenges, monitoring workflow, and ensuring the team maintains Velocity’s high standards of quality and efficiency. As a leader, you will foster a collaborative environment, empowering technicians with the tools and knowledge to succeed, while driving continuous improvement in processes and productivity.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Arrive 15 minutes before the shift starts, prepared to engage with the team on the production floor.
  • Monitor workflow in the Paint and Body Department to ensure daily production goals are met.
  • Ensure proper use of the station lighting system, addressing issues promptly as they arise.
  • Identify and document recurring paint or bodywork issues, creating reference guides to improve processes.
  • Respond to all emails promptly and follow up on unresolved matters before leaving for the day.
  • Provide technical support for red tag items, ensuring accurate data and timely resolution.
  • Conduct station sweeps with technicians during rotations, ensuring tasks are performed accurately and data is properly recorded.
  • Assist with end-of-day cleanup and ensure technicians organize their workstations for optimal efficiency.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating best practices in painting and bodywork while coaching, mentoring, and training team members.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, managers, and directors regarding process changes, ensuring all changes are approved before implementation.
  • Provide guidance to technicians on repair or upgrade processes to maintain consistent quality.
  • Uphold professional standards, including wearing Velocity polos and adhering to the company dress code.

  • Proven ability to excel in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor and motivate a team.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in automotive painting and bodywork processes.
  • Excellent communication skills for professional interactions with managers, coworkers, and vendors.
  • High level of dependability and a strong work ethic.
  • Availability to provide after-hours support when necessary to meet production demands.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable daily transportation.
  • Ability to work a minimum of 45-50 hours per week, on call as needed
  • Pre-employment drug screening and background check required.

Education Background and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of well-rounded experience in automotive painting or bodywork, with leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of industry best practices, tools, and techniques.

Physical Demands (To include but not limited to)

  • Prolonged periods of standing or walking around the workspace.
  • Frequently lifting heavy objects, such as tools, parts, or equipment, often weighing up to 50-75 pounds.
  • Regularly bending, stooping, or crouching to work on vehicles at different heights.
  • Moving large or heavy equipment, carts, or vehicles within the shop.
  • Precise manipulation of tools, small parts, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Continuous use of hands, arms, and fingers for tasks like tightening bolts, sanding, or painting.
  • Exposure to loud noises from power tools and machinery.
  • Using equipment like impact wrenches or sanders that produce significant vibration.
  • Working in non-climate-controlled environments, leading to exposure to heat or cold.
  • Potential exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals like solvents, oils, and paints. Proper PPE is often required.
  • Ensuring accuracy in measurements, assembly, and inspections.
  • Analyzing and troubleshooting mechanical or structural issues.
  • Frequent reaching above the shoulders or below the waist.
  • Maintaining physical activity throughout the day without fatigue.
  • Adherence to safety protocols to avoid injuries from sharp tools, heavy objects, or moving vehicles.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle.
