JOB TITLE: Safety Specialist JOB STATUS: Salaried/Exempt
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Ohio Director of Safety, the Safety Specialist will oversee regulatory compliance in the field and fabrication shops, injury prevention, risk assessment, communications, and safety training. This position will primarily cover Central and Northern Ohio.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Understands federal and state occupational safety and regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur
- Works with Director of Safety to plan, implement and supervise all projects and fabrication shop safety
- Reports safety performance measurements with a focus on leading indicators on a monthly basis
- Analyzes and recommends corrective action for incidents and trends
- Reinforces safety culture with field employees, including subcontractors
- Completes weekly site visits and inspections on construction projects and in fabrication shops utilizing Benchmark auditing software
- Coaches field leaders on the use of Benchmark for pre-planning, auditing, incident reporting, and tracking of training
- Maintain chemical inventories for all operations
- Participates in inspections from regulatory agencies
- Attends project related safety and pre-construction meetings
- Assists in incident, injury and near miss investigations
- Provides and oversees safety orientation and training for employees including, at a minimum: Rigging Fundamentals, Trenching/Excavation, Silica, Fall Protection, Ladder Safety, Forklifts, MEWP and other training as needed including utilizing outside vendors/resources
- Develops and distributes Safety Talks and safety communications/alerts
- Assists in development of site-specific safety plans
- Management of respiratory protection program
- Performs other duties as assigned
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- CHST Certification preferred
- OSHA 510 Certified
- OSHA 30 Construction & OSHA General Industry 10 Hour
- First Aid/CPR/AED, Forklift, Crane Safety, Fall Protection, Rigging/Signaling
- Strong Microsoft Office skills required
- Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- 5 years of Construction experience
- 2 -5 years of Safety experience
- Degree in Environmental, Health and Safety, or similar preferred
- Must be able to drive Company provided vehicle for daily travel.
