The Materials Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting aircraft maintenance operations by guaranteeing accurate receipt, control, and distribution of parts, materials, and tooling. This position directly impacts aircraft readiness by maintaining inventory integrity, supporting production schedules, and ensuring compliance with aviation regulatory and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Aircraft Materials & Inventory Control
- Receive, store, and distribute aircraft parts, components, and materials in support of maintenance and production activities
- Maintain accurate tracking of serialized and non-serialized parts, including documentation and location control
- Perform inventory transactions within ERP/MRP systems to ensure real-time accuracy
- Conduct cycle counts and support internal and external audits
- Procure rotable, consumable and expendable parts as requested
- Ensure parts meet strict aviation regulatory standards (traceability, certification like FAA Form 8130)
- Place and track generated purchase orders
- Prepare and release kits aligned to maintenance schedules and work orders
- Monitor shortages and proactively resolve material gaps to prevent delays (“line stoppers”)
- Partner with Maintenance, Engineering, Procurement, and Quality teams to support aircraft turnaround timelines
- Track part status and support expediting efforts across maintenance workflows
- Receive incoming aircraft parts and materials from vendors and carriers
- Verify documentation including packing slips, certifications, and regulatory compliance (e.g., FAA requirements)
- Inspect shipments for damage or discrepancies and coordinate resolution with procurement
- Ensure proper documentation retention and traceability of all received materials
- Issue and track tools, calibrated equipment, and shop supplies in accordance with tool control programs
- Maintain tool accountability, including tracking, inspection, and reporting of lost or damaged tools
- Support FOD (Foreign Object Debris) prevention and control initiatives
- Ship tooling to AOG maintenance events as needed
- Ensure compliance with FAA regulations, company procedures, and quality standards
- Adhere to handling requirements for hazardous materials, ESD-sensitive components, and shelf-life-controlled items
- Maintain clean, organized, and audit-ready stockroom and work areas
- Participate in continuous improvement and process optimization efforts
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Experience in aviation, aerospace, or regulated maintenance environment strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and inventory control processes
- Familiarity with FAA regulations, part traceability, and aviation documentation preferred
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain)
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, part numbers, and specifications
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting
- Ability to climb ladders and work in hangar or warehouse environments
- Aircraft maintenance hangar and warehouse setting
- Exposure to aircraft systems, moving equipment, and elevated noise levels
- May involve both indoor and outdoor conditions
