Full Time | 10 Hour Shifts | 3rd shift
Position Overview
HEG US Inc / velia.net is seeking a Data Center Technician I to join our operations team in our St. Louis data center. This entry-level position is responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of servers, networking equipment, and infrastructure within a mission-critical environment.
The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where uptime and response time are critical.
This role works closely with internal engineering teams, network operations, and customer support to ensure our infrastructure remains operational and reliable.
Responsibilities
- Install, rack, and cable servers, network equipment, and storage systems
- Perform hardware replacements including drives, memory, power supplies, and entire servers
- Troubleshoot hardware and connectivity issues
- Respond to monitoring alerts and operational tickets
- Document all work performed in the ticketing system
- Label and manage structured cabling
- Assist with inventory management and asset tracking
- Perform remote hands tasks for internal teams and customers
- Verify system status via console, IPMI, or remote management interfaces
- Follow established operational procedures and escalation processes
Required Qualifications
- Basic understanding of computer hardware and server components
- Familiarity with networking fundamentals (IP addressing, switches, cabling)
- Ability to follow written procedures and document work accurately
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working in a data center, NOC, or IT support role
- Familiarity with Linux command line
- Experience with remote management tools such as IPMI, iDRAC, or iLO
- Experience installing servers in racks
- Experience with structured cabling
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in cold aisle / hot aisle environments
- Ability to stand, walk, and work in server racks for extended periods
Work Schedule
- 10 hour shifts
- Day, night, weekend, and holiday coverage may be required
- Participation in shift rotations
Compensation
- $21.00 – $24.00 per hour, depending on experience
