It is the mission and vision of Vegas Vista Academy to uplift our community by offering access to innovative, effective, and proven models of education. When fully operational, Vegas Vista Academy will be a K-12 International Baccalaureate (IB) full continuum academy, offering all four IB programs, with a focus on wellness. The academy will be a small school of choice, and will provide strategic support for ELL and bilingual education. Vegas Vista Academy will incorporate data-driven and research-based instructional methodologies, including problem-based learning, hands-on experiential education, and incorporation of the inquiry and design cycle. Students will employ and master the IB Approaches to Teaching and Learning skills, including thinking skills, self-management skills, research skills, communication skills, and social skills. We will be an integrated learning community where every student feels safe and known. Capping at 780 students K-12, we will be small enough to ensure personalized learning, but large enough to offer a full, rich, and challenging curriculum continually informed by best practice. With a strong focus on service learning and a full array of wraparound services for our families, we will be fully invested in and partnered with the community.

Position Overview:

As a Vegas Vista Academy substitute, you will be integral to our mission to nurture inquisitive and research-based critical thinkers.Your role will primarily concern itself with substituting when a teacher needs to call out or request a personal day.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure the students are listening and learning throughout the day that the teacher is not present.
• Ensure the safety of the students
• Follow the set schedule set by the teacher
• React accordingly to day-to-day circumstances that may arise
• Manage classroom expectations

Required Qualifications:

• Substitute License REQUIRED.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proficiency in English.
• Commitment to the VVA Mission and Vision.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Cultural competence and an appreciation for diversity.
• Ability to adapt to a dynamic and collaborative work environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in elementary education.
• Prior experience working on a collaborative and dynamic team, or the desire to do so.
• Proficiency or fluency in a second language.
