About the Role


Vector Laboratories is an established company providing high-quality protein detection, glycobiology, bioconjugation, and specialty chemistry products and services to life science researchers. We are seeking a Sr. Business Development Manager to promote the company’s portfolio of catalog and custom products, with a focus on creating new customer partnerships and understanding the customer’s current and future needs within the pharmaceutical and contract services industries. This position is responsible for day-to-day activities related to business development, sales, and customer support in the Northeast territory (ME, NH, VT, RI, CT, MA, NY, NJ, PA, and DE) of the United States. Our ideal candidate will be passionate and have the intellectual curiosity to be driven and understand the customer’s needs. This position reports to the Sr. Director, US Sales.


Responsibilities


  • Meet and exceed sales targets by establishing strong business relationships with current and future customers and aggressively pursuing new sales opportunities.
  • Use CRM and web-based research tools to understand customer organizations, working with new key accounts to understand buying trends and how buying decisions are made.
  • Generate leads, identify and qualify new prospects, and secure new business collaboration opportunities by nurturing and building relationships.
  • Establish and maintain frequent contact with customers through focused client visits and presentations to ensure high levels of satisfaction on issues and needs.
  • Conduct formal sales presentations and follow-up calls to prospective new business accounts.
  • Collaborate with management to perform feasibility assessments and to convert opportunities into project proposals; develop proposals and manage the execution of contract agreements.
  • Work with Sales Management to establish and execute a comprehensive sales plan for each target account, including custom, OEM, and private label services.
  • Collaborate with appropriate internal resources to develop comprehensive sales presentation materials tailored to the customer.
  • Conduct in-depth research using web resources, scientific forums, and other lead sources to identify trendsetting ideas and opportunities; assess industry business trends to capitalize on emerging opportunities for business growth.
  • Track and maintain documentation of customer activities in CRM to facilitate appropriate reporting of client contacts, notes, opportunities, and sales pipeline; provide regular status updates.
  • Communicate and coordinate with different functions on internal alignment for active projects in the strategy plan.
  • Follow up on submitted information (inquiries, RFPs, proposals, etc.) as appropriate.
  • Establish effective relationships with internal associates and external clients to grow an effective business team.
  • Use CRM to document customer meetings and provide accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue forecasts to management.
  • Actively participate at professional meetings and conventions.
  • Demonstrate the utmost level of ethical behavior and personal integrity at all times; operate with the highest professional business ethics when dealing with customers, colleagues, and government entities.
  • Ability to travel domestically based on business needs (up to 40%).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


  • MS or PhD preferred or BS with 8 years of relevant laboratory experience; 8 years of sales experience with 5 years calling on pharmaceutical, CRO, or biotech customers.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and closing new business opportunities in the life sciences industry; energetic with strong motivation to find new business opportunities.
  • Proven ability to generate a high-volume, high-quality sales pipeline.
  • Proven record of delivering high-quality presentations and business proposals/contracts under tight timelines.
  • Highly organized in planning and time management, with the ability to multitask.
  • Motivation and ability to expand existing expertise into new science and business areas.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, good judgment, and ability to communicate with a diverse range of professionals.
  • Ability to recognize the needs of the customer and collaborate with Vector Laboratories’ management to develop proposals and solutions.
  • Analytical skills coupled with strong technical abilities and a genuine passion for existing and new technologies and scientific advances.
  • Able to work independently and manage multiple relationships simultaneously.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively while executing methodically with high attention to detail and operational excellence.


Pay range and compensation package


The anticipated base salary range for this position is $124,000–$146,000, plus eligibility for a variable commission plan. The salary offer will depend on multiple factors which may include the successful candidate’s skills, experience, and other qualifications.
