***This role will support Ophthalmology at Downtown Nelson Clinic, Downtown CHOR, Fredericksburg CHOR, and Stony Point 8700 locations. There will be expectation that Ophthalmic Manager will travel to one of these sites to help support as business needs permit.***
The Ophthalmology Manager will manage and provide operational oversight to the department/business functions of all geographic locations to ensure efficient and effective operations.
This job serves as a resource and clinical leader for patients, staff, and management and provides direction, education, and serving as a role model in a clinical setting.
Licensure, Certification, Or Registration Requirements For Hire
Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Technologist (COMT) Licensure, Certification, or Registration
Requirements For Continued Employment
Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Technologist (COMT)
Experience REQUIRED
5 years’ experience as COT or COMT
One year of leadership experience
Experience PREFERRED
Academic healthcare experience
5 years’ of progressive leadership/management experience
Education/training REQUIRED
Associate’s Degree in Health Science or related field.
Education/training PREFERRED
Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science or related field and completion of Ophthalmic Technology Program
Independent Action(s) Required
Actions that are taken without prior approval include preliminary patient workups, supervision of staff and all daily operations.
Advice and guidance sought from Chairman or Sr. Manager Clinic Ops on employee related actions.
Practice within the boundaries of regulations governing medical assistants in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) and The Joint Commission guide practice on Accreditation of Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO)
All practice is guided by and follows the VCUHS policies, procedures and established practice.
Supervisory Responsibilities (if Applicable)
Organizes and delegates work to clinical staff (OA, OP, COA, COT, COMT, and CRA) in carrying out assignments.
Manages all clinical staff.
Responsible for the performance management process for the clinical staff.
Additional Position Requirements
Hours are Monday – Friday 8 AM – 5 PM with occasional overtime in an academic outpatient clinic environment
