The College offers curricula at the baccalaureate, master's, post-graduate and doctoral levels designed to prepare health care professionals for roles in a variety of clinical, teaching, and community health and wellness settings. All of our programs are approved or accredited by the appropriate professional or educational organizations. A leader in distance learning, we offer the only interdisciplinary, internet-based doctoral program for health professionals in the country, the Ph.D. Program in Health Related Sciences. We also offer a Bachelors of Science in Health Services. The B.S. in Health Services program is designed to prepare students to work as medical and health services providers, charged with planning, directing, and coordinating medical and health services.
Duties & Responsibilities
This role supports overall Student Success programming in the College of Health Professions. This includes co-curricular and community building events, milestone events, and CHP Student Success initiatives including, but not limited to, the Alumni Mentoring Program, the Student Emergency Fund and the Tutoring Program. This position will administratively support the Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs.
Student Success Co-curricular and Community Building Programming
The Program Coordinator Works With The Director Of Academic Advising And The Director For Recruitment And Student Programming To Create And Support Ongoing Co-curricular And Community Building Programming And Milestone Events Such As Orientation And Commencement. Specific Tasks Include
The Program Coordinator Works With The Associate Dean For Academic Affairs And Student Success To Oversee The CHP Alumni Mentoring Program. The Program Coordinator Will Communicate With Both The Current CHP Students And The College Alumni. Tasks Include
Administrative Support of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Student Success
Administratively Supporting The Associate Dean Of Academic Affairs And Student Success Will Include Calendar Management And Scheduling As Well As Supporting Other Areas Of The Associate Dean’s Portfolio. Tasks Include But Are Not Limited To

Student Success Co-curricular and Community Building Programming
The Program Coordinator Works With The Director Of Academic Advising And The Director For Recruitment And Student Programming To Create And Support Ongoing Co-curricular And Community Building Programming And Milestone Events Such As Orientation And Commencement. Specific Tasks Include
- Manage student success event logistics, including room scheduling and creating Zoom links, registration and food ordering, and post-event assessment;
- Promote events within CHP by creating or posting flyers on department message boards, on the Student Success information board, and sharing with student services staff across CHP, and via the Axis TV system;
- Assist with orientation. Tasks include but are not limited to: room reservation, populating Canvas course with incoming students, monitoring completion of orientation modules, ordering food and swag, supervising Zoom for distance participants, creating RSVP form, and sending a feedback survey after the event.
The Program Coordinator Works With The Associate Dean For Academic Affairs And Student Success To Oversee The CHP Alumni Mentoring Program. The Program Coordinator Will Communicate With Both The Current CHP Students And The College Alumni. Tasks Include
- Communicate with prospective alumni mentors and current CHP students;
- Track mentorship requests and communicate mentor/mentee matches;
- Support assessment of mentorship experience via feedback surveys;
- Support mentor/mentee engagement events.
Administrative Support of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Student Success
Administratively Supporting The Associate Dean Of Academic Affairs And Student Success Will Include Calendar Management And Scheduling As Well As Supporting Other Areas Of The Associate Dean’s Portfolio. Tasks Include But Are Not Limited To
- Arrange the Associate Dean’s travel and professional memberships;
- Support CHPs scholarship selection process;
- Support the Academic Program Review process;
- Support the records management process for Academic Affairs and Student Success;
- Support other initiatives as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Experience as an administrative assistant.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team in a diverse work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with multiple and varied customers in a professional and respectful manner.
- Demonstrated ability to respond professionally and congenially to emails and phone inquiries from potential/present students, alumni, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Exceptional positive service-oriented customer service skills, along with the ability to prioritize work, handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines is required.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in an office environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive.
- Experience using a wide array of office machines/technologies is required.
- Excellent attention to detail and exceptional analytical, communication, problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, and proofreading skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
- 1-2 years of work experience in an administrative/office support position
- Experience in a higher education environment
