Advertising Summary: The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, housed in the College of Health Professions, is seeking a motivated, organized, and dedicated individual to fill the position of Summer Program Laboratory Assistant This position will be responsible for assisting with laboratory needs during a summer laboratory program.

The mission of the undergraduate program is to serve the health care needs of the community by providing highly competent and professional medical laboratory scientists who will be able to function effectively upon entrance into the field and be prepared to explore future scientific and technological advances in laboratory science.
The mission of the graduate program is to provide the student with advanced theoretical and technical education and prepare students to assume roles as laboratory supervisors, educators, and researchers.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in summer program laboratories; including picking up samples, preparation, and the actual sessions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to follow directions, recognize and correct errors, and exercise independent judgment and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic general laboratory techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively including the ability to work with individuals from all backgrounds.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as an hourly employee at VCU.
- Previous experience assisting with student laboratory sessions in clinical laboratory sciences.
- Previous work experience in a laboratory.
- Generalist certification (MLS).
