Job Description
The City of Malibu is seeking Code Enforcement Officers for long-term, full-time assignments supporting the City’s fire rebuild areas. These roles are ideal for professionals who bring strong code enforcement knowledge along with empathy, flexibility, and excellent customer service skills.
These roles are expected to start in the month of January and follow a 9/80 schedule, with the workday beginning at 7:30 AM.
What You’ll Do
- Manage a high volume caseload (approximately 200 cases)
- Perform code enforcement activities related to fire rebuild efforts
- Interpret and apply local and state code enforcement requirements
- Communicate with residents, contractors, and internal staff regarding compliance
- Use sound judgment to balance enforcement with flexibility and compassion
- Provide clear guidance while handling sensitive situations with care
- Document cases accurately and maintain organized records

Experience and Education/Certification Requirements:
Experience:
Minimum of two years acting in the capacity of a Code Enforcement Officer and working at a city or county location
*Prior experience as a Building Inspector preferred
Degree: Bachelor’s or Associates degree is preferred
Certifications Preferred:
- Basic Code Enforcement 1
- Intermediate Code Enforcement 2
- PC-832 Fire Arms/Power of Arrest
- Adult Corrections Officer Core Courses (STC) Certified
- CPR & AED Program
- First Aid Certified
In Addition:
- Possess a clean Driving Record in the State of California
- Be capable of passing a Live Scan, or other background check as required
- Provide at least three (3) job related references
