Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will support clinical operations across various specialties, including dermatology, hospital medicine, urgent care, and outpatient services. This role requires a compassionate approach to patient care, strong medical knowledge, and proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems. The Medical Assistant will play a vital role in ensuring efficient patient flow, accurate documentation, and high-quality medical support in a fast-paced environment such as Level I and Level II trauma centers, inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and specialized departments like PICU and OR.
Duties
- Perform patient intake procedures, including collecting medical histories and documenting chief complaints
- Measure and record vital signs accurately
- Assist with patient examinations and procedures in various settings such as emergency medicine, geriatrics, medical-surgical units, and internal medicine clinics
- Support medication administration under supervision and assist with basic life support when necessary
- Prepare patients for diagnostic tests including X-ray procedures and other imaging modalities
- Document clinical notes efficiently within EHR systems using appropriate medical terminology and ICD coding
- Support hospital medicine teams with patient service tasks, including rooming patients and updating records
- Assist with specimen collection and basic laboratory tasks as needed
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of clinical areas in compliance with safety standards
- Provide excellent patient service by addressing questions and ensuring comfort throughout the visit
Requirements
- Proven experience in clinical settings such as hospital experience, outpatient clinics, or specialty areas like dermatology or emergency medicine
- Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, ICD coding, and medical terminology
- Certification or training in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required
- Familiarity with EHR systems and medical administrative support functions
- Experience with intake procedures, vital signs collection, medication administration, X-ray support, and emergency response protocols preferred
- Prior work in Level I or Level II trauma centers or ICU settings such as PICU is advantageous
- Ability to work efficiently in inpatient or outpatient environments across various specialties including geriatrics, medical-surgical units, internal medicine, or OR settings
- Strong communication skills with a focus on patient service excellence
- Ability to adapt to fast-paced healthcare environments while maintaining attention to detail
