JOB TITLE: College and Career Specialist
STATUS: Part-time (Hourly), 222 Workdays per year
REPORTS TO: College & Career Coordinator
CAMPUS: Pandaland, G3, Mainland & MIT Campus at Vaughn Next Century Learning Center
ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
Vaughn Next Century Learning Center (“Vaughn”), located in Pacoima, is a large urban public school within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Since the early 1970s, low student achievement had been a pattern. In 1993, tired of being helpless and hopeless, Vaughn became the first conversion charter school in the nation and was authorized by LAUSD. The charter was renewed most recently in 2018. Vaughn has over 25 years of experience as a successful independent charter school serving the district’s low-income students. This previously failing elementary public school is now a full-service, community-based, K-12th charter school that assures all students are college/career ready, digitally literate, and globally competent.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The College & Career Program Specialist supports the delivery of college and career readiness programming across school sites. This role focuses on implementing workshops, assisting students and families with college and career planning, and supporting after-school and enrichment activities. The Coordinator works under the guidance of the Program Director and school leadership to ensure students are on track for graduation, college enrollment, and career readiness.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Implementation & Student Support
- Assist in delivering after-school and enrichment programs that promote college and career readiness.
- Lead student workshops on college awareness, career pathways, financial aid, and academic success strategies.
- Support students in completing college applications, dual enrollment forms, FAFSA/DACA, and scholarship applications.
- Track and document student participation, progress, and engagement in programs and workshops.
- Assist with organizing college field trips, community service opportunities, career/college fairs, and special events.
- Partner with students, families, and school staff to identify and address barriers to academic success.
Data Collection & Reporting
- Maintain accurate program records, attendance logs, and documentation for evaluation and reporting purposes.
- Assist in collecting data on student outcomes, including grades, attendance, and engagement in college and career activities.
Collaboration & Support
- Work under the direction of the Program Director to implement college and career programming.
- Collaborate with school staff, tutors, and volunteers to ensure smooth execution of events and activities.
- Participate in staff trainings, workshops, and professional development related to program delivery.
Additional Duties
- Support program logistics, including preparation of materials, event setup, and coordination with community partners.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the College & Career Program.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, families, and school staff.
- Ability to follow program guidelines, instructions, and schedules accurately.
- Comfortable facilitating student workshops and assisting with events.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills for tracking student participation and program data.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and external partners.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, or related field required.
- At least three years of experience working with PK–12 students, college readiness programming, or after-school programs required.
- At least one year of experience supporting youth in academic enrichment, college/career exploration, and family engagement required.
- Familiarity with the San Fernando Valley and knowledge of local college/career resources preferred.
- Familiarity with college applications, dual enrollment, and financial aid processes preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is strongly preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Upon receiving an offer of employment:
- Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan) with the Department of Justice (DOJ)
- Must provide a Tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux) clearance within 60 days of employment
- Will be assigned mandated state training to be completed prior to the first day of employment
