Summary Of Role

The Executive Vice President, Chief Sponsor Banking Officer (CSBO) is responsible for the strategic direction, growth, governance, and overall performance of the Bank's Sponsor Banking division. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CSBO leads the Bank's Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS), fintech, embedded finance, payments, digital asset, and other strategic partnership activities while ensuring alignment with the Bank's business strategy, risk appetite, regulatory obligations, and financial objectives.

The CSBO serves as the executive accountable for all sponsor banking relationships and acts as the primary liaison between executive management, regulators, Board committees, strategic partners, and key stakeholders regarding sponsor banking activities. The role is responsible for driving sustainable growth, maintaining a robust control environment, fostering innovation, and ensuring the effective management of operational, compliance, credit, liquidity, strategic, reputational, and third-party risks associated with sponsor banking programs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and execute the enterprise Sponsor Banking strategy.
  • Serve as the executive leader responsible for all sponsor banking and fintech partnership activities.
  • Evaluate emerging market opportunities, industry trends, regulatory developments, and strategic risks.
  • Develop and execute growth strategies that diversify revenue streams while maintaining alignment with the Bank's risk appetite.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and Board of Directors regarding sponsor banking initiatives.
  • Drive innovation while ensuring operational scalability and regulatory compliance.
  • Own the Sponsor Banking P&L and overall financial performance of the business line.
  • Develop annual strategic plans, budgets, forecasts, and growth objectives.
  • Establish financial targets related to revenue generation, deposits, fee income, and profitability.
  • Evaluate new products, programs, partnerships, and strategic investments.
  • Lead negotiations involving significant commercial agreements and strategic partnerships.
  • Ensure portfolio diversification and sustainable long-term growth.
  • Maintain executive-level relationships with fintech partners, payment companies, digital asset organizations, program managers, and strategic service providers.
  • Represent the Bank before regulators, industry organizations, strategic partners, investors, and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as the executive sponsor for critical sponsor banking relationships.
  • Lead relationship governance forums and executive steering committees.
  • Ensure sponsor banking activities are conducted in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and supervisory expectations.
  • Maintain executive oversight of third-party risk management, BSA/AML compliance, sanctions compliance, fraud risk management, consumer compliance, information security, and operational resilience.
  • Partner closely with the Chief Risk Officer and Chief Compliance Officer to ensure appropriate governance and risk management frameworks.
  • Ensure material risks are identified, escalated, monitored, and addressed.
  • Support regulatory examinations and maintain productive relationships with regulatory agencies.
  • Foster a strong culture of compliance, accountability, and risk awareness throughout the Sponsor Banking division.
  • Establish and maintain effective governance structures for sponsor banking activities.
  • Provide regular reporting to the Executive Leadership Team, Board Risk Committee, and Board of Directors.
  • Oversee policies, procedures, risk assessments, controls, and monitoring programs related to sponsor banking.
  • Ensure effective management of audit findings, regulatory matters, and remediation activities.
  • Build and lead a high-performing sponsor banking organization.
  • Attract, develop, and retain top industry talent.
  • Develop future organizational capabilities required to support strategic growth.
  • Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Knowledge & Skills
Experience

15 years of banking, or financial sales experience. Significant experience leading Sponsor Banking, Banking-as-a-Service, Fintech Partnerships, Payments, Embedded Finance, Treasury Management, Digital Asset Banking, or related business lines.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

Bachelor’s Degree in Management Business Management, Finance, Banking or related field.

Interpersonal Skills

A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on
matters of significance.

Physical Requirements

Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.
Working Condition
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.

Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace.  Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising the highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
