Job Title: Nurse Practitioner (NP) – Vascular Surgery & Wound Care

Position Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) – Vascular Surgery is vital in delivering comprehensive care for patients with vascular conditions and complex wounds. This role includes outpatient clinic responsibilities, hospital rounding, call schedule of one weekend per month, and a focus on wound care management. The NP will work closely with vascular surgeons to assess, diagnose, and treat patients, ensuring high-quality patient outcomes. This position will require travel to VASC locations in San Antonio, as applicable.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, including medical history and physical examinations.
  • Diagnose and manage vascular conditions in collaboration with the vascular surgeon.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as ultrasounds, MRIs, and CT scans.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Prescribe medications and manage post-operative care.
  • Provide specialized wound care management, including assessment, treatment, and follow-up for chronic and surgical wounds.
  • Educate patients and families on vascular health, wound care management, treatment options, and preventative care.
  • Perform daily hospital rounds, assess patients, and coordinate care with the surgical team.
  • Assist in managing post-operative patients, including wound care, debridement, and infection management.
  • Monitor vascular and wound healing progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Communicate with hospital staff, nurses, and other specialists to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Provide follow-up care and assist with hospital discharge planning.

Wound Care Specialty

  • Perform comprehensive wound assessments and develop evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Manage a variety of wounds, including diabetic ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, arterial ulcers, pressure injuries, and post-surgical wounds.
  • Utilize advanced wound care therapies, such as negative pressure wound therapy, biological dressings, and debridement techniques.
  • Collaborate with vascular surgeons and other specialists to optimize wound healing and prevent complications.

Collaboration & Administration

  • Work closely with vascular surgeons, RNs, Vascular Techs, and medical assistants to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Participate in team meetings and case discussions to optimize treatment strategies.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, HIPAA, and state/federal regulations.
  • Assist in clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education.

 

 

 

On-Call

  • 1 weekend a month assist with on-call coverage for on-call vascular surgeon.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education

  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing (MSN/DNP) from an accredited program.

Licensure

  • Current Nurse Practitioner license in Texas.

Certification

  • Board-certified as a Nurse Practitioner (FNP, AGACNP, or other applicable certification).
  • Wound care certification (WCC, CWCN, or equivalent) preferred but not required.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of vascular surgery, wound care, cardiovascular, or relevant specialty experience preferred.

Skills

  • Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-based surgical environment.
  • Excellent communication and patient education skills.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems and documentation.
  • Expertise in advanced wound care management and treatment modalities.
