- Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of social work theories, human behavior in the social environment, social welfare policy, clinical practice methods, group work, community organizing, research methods, and professional ethics. Ability to explain ecological systems theory, strengths-based practice, trauma-informed care, and the NASW Code of Ethics while preparing students for social work licensure and professional practice.
- Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at breaking down case conceptualization, intervention planning, and policy analysis for social work practice. Guides students through conducting biopsychosocial assessments, developing treatment plans, applying motivational interviewing techniques, evaluating program effectiveness, and navigating ethical dilemmas. Emphasizes integrating theory with practice and connects social work to mental health, child welfare, healthcare, and community development applications.
- Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with BSW and MSW curricula and common challenges such as integrating theory with field practice, developing cultural competency, and preparing for ASWB licensure examinations. Adapts instruction using case vignettes, role-play exercises, and practice exam questions to support social work students from BSW through MSW levels preparing for field placements and professional licensure.
- Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
- Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
