What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructional Tutor position at Various Buildings?
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Serve as member of support team for students. Provide individualized assistance and coaching to assigned students and provide ongoing support.
Tutors will work under the direct supervision of the assigned teacher.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
Valid teaching certificate (Required endorsements for subject and level assigned and Texas Certification preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Demonstrate expertise in teaching the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
Knowledge of State Mandated Assessments
Effective interpersonal skills and willingness to work collaboratively with the instructional support team
Effective coaching, problem solving and conferencing skills
Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and learning
Demonstrated effectiveness as a professional role model
Demonstrated use of best teaching practices
Understanding of and ability to use student learning research
Experience:
Three years teaching experience (preferred)
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Tutoring
- Meet regularly with the assigned teacher and participate in ongoing support team meetings.
- Provide instructional support based upon the diagnostic needs of the students as determined by the principal and the assigned teacher.
- Work with principal and the assigned teacher on scheduling of students for tutoring.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to teach the required specific concepts needed by the student. Normally, the tutor will use different strategies than those already used by the assigned teacher.
- Report daily to the assigned teachers on the progress of each student.
- Participate in delivery of small group instruction to students.
Communication
- Establish and maintain open communication with principal and the assigned teacher and other staff as needed.
- Maintain a professional relationship with principal and the assigned teacher and support team members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in professional development activities to improve instructional skills.
Other
- Compile, maintain, and supply to principal and the assigned teacher tutoring schedules, reports and records of instructional strategies.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None
WORKING CONDITIONS:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional irregular hours.
