What are the responsibilities and job description for the After School Middle School Coordinator position at Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens?
We are looking for an enthusiastic, upbeat, professional individual to join our Variety Family! We are an afterschool program that has been serving the Long Island City community for over 60 years. Responsibilities Include (not limited to)
A Middle School Coordinator managing a dozen Youth Development Professionals. Support the design, curriculum, and implementation of activities in a variety of disciplines including sports, art, theatre, STEAM, swimming, etc primarily for middle school club members, 6th-8th grade. They must be familiar with DYCD-Sonyc Programming
Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem-solving of the groups.
Responsible for middleschool program quality assurance
Assist staff hiring/managements (scheduling, lesson plan submission, clubs/activities,etc)
Provide opportunities for your team of staff to communicate and receive feedback on their performance.
Monitor and maintain supplies needed for activities.
Report to Director regarding all program related matters
Conduct monthly DOH & DYCD Required program safety drills
Maintain logs, incident reports, and all participant documentation
Qualifications:
College degree in Childhood Education preferred with at least 2 years of relevant experience in youth development/ staff management- program administration (afterschool)
Ability to relate to one's peer group
Ability to accept supervision and guidance
Ability to facilitate engaging activities, staff meetings, trainings, etc
Good character, integrity, and adaptability
Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
Positive role model, and professional
Adhere to club objectives, rules, policies, and guidelines
Perform other duties as assigned, not limited to aligned with all program related events

Reports To: Program Director
Schedule & Commitment: Mondays-Fridays, 25-30 hours per week in the afternoon/evening

The Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens is the largest youth development program in Western Queens serving over 1,200 young people ages 6-17. For over 60 years, we have served families from across Astoria, Long Island City, Sunnyside, Woodside, Jackson Heights, and beyond. Our Club spans 1.5 acres and features a pool, theater, kitchen, gymnasium, technology lab, dance studio, and activity rooms.
