Variant Collaborative is a boutique interior design studio based in Chicago, specializing in hospitality, retail, luxury student housing, and multifamily design.
- We are currently seeking an Interior Designer with 4-6 years of professional experience in hospitality design. QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design from a CIDA-accredited program.
- 4-6 years of professional experience in commercial interior design. Hospitality experience is preferred.
- Participation in at least two projects from concept through construction administration.
- NCIDQ Certification is preferred, but not required. Preference will be given to designers who are actively pursuing NCIDQ certification.
- A strong proficiency in Revit software is required for this position.
TECHNICAL SKILL SET REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficient in Revit, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, SketchUp, Enscape, Bluebeam, AutoCAD and Autodesk Construciton Cloud.
- Demonstrates confidence in conceptual strategy, and proficiency with drawing set development, furniture and millwork documentation, and construction administration support.
- Strong understanding of building and accessibility codes.
- Ability to produce accurate construction documents with minimal oversight, with a working knowledge of architectural, structural, and MEP systems.
- Willingness to learn and take on new technical responsibilities.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support multiple projects simultaneously under minimal guidance.
- Demonstrate strong communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Actively support design team by providing guidance, modeling processes, and contributing to a culture of collaboration.
- Confidently present design ideas to internal teams, Principals and clients.
- Conduct site visits, field verifications, and assist with the coordination of design elements.
- Stay informed about current design trends, materials, and technologies.
- Maintain organized project documentation and adhere to company standards.
- Manage time, deadlines, and shifting priorities with consistency and reliability.
- Sourcing appropriate materials and furniture selections for each project.
- Participate in project installations.
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and vendors.
- Lead in the Construction Administration phase, including RFIs and submittals.
- Demonstrate strong understanding of project timelines and budgets.
