Security Officer – 801 Grand / Principal Building
Location: Des Moines, IA
Position Type: Full-Time / Part-Time (1st, 2nd, and 3rd Shifts Available)
Job Summary
We are seeking dedicated, professional Security Officers to join our team at 801 Grand in downtown Des Moines. Security Officers are responsible for ensuring a safe, secure environment for tenants, visitors, and staff across all shifts. This role involves interior and exterior patrols, access control management, front desk coverage, and detailed incident reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Access Control & Facility Security: Conduct regular patrols of public spaces, skywalks, tenant floors, and parking facilities to enforce building policies and secure entry/exit points.
- Visitor & Tenant Service: Manage the main lobby security desk, assist visitors and tenants, and provide coverage for dock management as needed.
- Building Opening & Closing: Execute daily opening and closing procedures, including unlocking and securing exterior doors, skywalk connections, and conference rooms based on shift protocols.
- Incident Reporting & Documentation: Accurately record daily logs, maintenance issues, and incident reports into digital security reporting software.
- Shift Flexibility: Perform designated shift-specific duties ranging from peak-hour tenant support (1st shift), evening securing and access enforcement (2nd shift), to overnight security monitoring and building preparation (3rd shift).
Additional Generic Responsibilities:
- Maintain control of a building or area.
- Ensure the safety of the general public and emergency responders.
- Respond to threats of danger and security breaches.
- Keep subordinates accountable.
- Handle difficult & confrontational situations.
- Excellence within your department.
- Provide assistance to clients and customers.
- Maintain security equipment, tools, and other security supplies.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience in security, customer service, law enforcement, or military preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to stand, walk extensive building rounds, and climb stairs for extended periods.
- Professional demeanor with a strong commitment to safety and customer service.
