What are the responsibilities and job description for the Art Advisory & Research Internship position at VARA ART?
VARA ART, a New York-based art advisory and curatorial firm specializing in contemporary art, valuation, cultural heritage, and artists’ rights, is accepting applications for its paid, part-time Fall Internship.
This internship offers valuable experience in contemporary art, including art market, historical, archival, provenance, and cultural heritage research. Responsibilities will entail collection management, database management, content creation, artist dossiers, and support of the international team. The intern will also assist with a proprietary archive project on living artists, creative rights, and public art, directed by VARA ART's founder.
Timing: September - December 2026, flexible
Hours: 16 - 24 hours per week
Pay: Commensurate with academic and practical experience
Location: NYC region or 100% remote applications are equally welcome
Academic Credit: Available where applicable
Qualifications
- Undergraduate/graduate student or recent graduate
- Excellent writing, communication, and editorial skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Interest in art history, visual culture, contemporary art, cultural heritage, public art, and/or artists’ rights
- Museum, nonprofit, gallery, or art market experience a plus
- Archival, open-source, database, metadata, and AI-assisted research skills a plus
- Self-motivated, curious, organized, and collaborative
Requirements
- Strong humanities background or interest in modern/contemporary visual culture
- Excellent organization and multitasking skills
- Proficiency in Google Workspace, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Adobe, Photoshop, digital media, or AI tools a plus
- Highlight relevant coursework and academic research experience
