Job Summary
Production Team Leader at Edge Materials Management ensures the safe, efficient, and quality-driven manufacturing of products within the plant. This role requires strong leadership to direct and motivate team members while maintaining morale and meeting production goals. The Team Leader is responsible for achieving operational excellence by focusing on metrics such as OEE, employee retention, and process improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead and take ownership of all aspects of OEE (Cycle Time Achievement, Good Parts Rate, and Availability “Uptime vs. Downtime”).
• Ensure PLEX has correct data and correct material is being processed. Monitors cross contamination risks and eliminate them. Fostering a culture of accountability, organization, and accuracy.
• Foster a culture of accountability by setting clear expectations, ensuring compliance with company goals, processes, and core values.
• Guide the team in achieving production goals, employee retention, reduction of downtime, quality and 5S implementation.
• Coordinate shipping and receiving activities, including verifying inbound and outbound materials, completing required paperwork, and ensuring all transactions, inventory movements, and shipment/receipt records are accurately entered and maintained in PLEX.
• Review production requirements, safety concerns, and emerging issues, while proactively offering solutions.
• Schedule team members and jobs to meet production requirements efficiently.
• Train team members on machine operation and troubleshooting, providing feedback to build skills and ensure coverage.
• Identify and implement improvements in the production process to enhance efficiency and quality.
• Monitor performance against planned objectives and take corrective action, including disciplinary measures when necessary.
• Manage time and attendance records, taking appropriate action for missed time per company policies.
• Ensure team members have proper equipment to meet job requirements, including PPE.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks and ensure Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) work is completed.
• Report maintenance needs to the Maintenance and Production Manager.
• Conduct regular performance reviews for team members to support growth and accountability.
• Follow all company safety rules, wear required PPE and immediately report hazards or incidents.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with company policies and procedures.
• Identify and sort various types of plastics using company procedures.
• Safely use hand tools, air tools, and power tools to remove non-plastic components from raw materials.
Required Skills and Abilities
• Proficiency in computer skills, including PLEX and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Comfortable working with hand tools, power tools, and air tools.
• Forklift certification.
• Maintenance and repair skills for shop equipment.
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent
• 3 years in a manufacturing or recycling role.
• 1 year of Leadership or supervisory experience
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
• Ability to work in environments that may be noisy, warm, wet or cold.
• Standing, bending, and walking for extended periods.
Accountabilities
This role is responsible for maintaining high standards of safety, environmental compliance, product quality, equipment reliability, and productivity in alignment with department and company goals. They are accountable for team performance, operational decisions during their shifts, and ensuring production goals are achieved safely.
