JOB SUMMARY
The Portfolio Manager supports the Laredo commercial banking team by assisting with the initial underwriting of middle-market commercial and industrial (C&I) loans. They work directly with the credit team to facilitate loan approvals in compliance with the bank’s lending policies and procedures. The Portfolio Manager collaborates closely with Commercial Relationship Managers (CRMs) and actively participates in client and prospect calls. They promote business for the bank by maintaining good customer relations and referring customers to appropriate staff for additional products and services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Supports Commercial Relationship Managers in the daily management of commercial banking relationships.
Leads or assists with term loan extensions, line of credit renewals, financial information collection, and exception monitoring/clearing; works directly with clients to obtain required documentation.
Conducts credit underwriting, analysis, and evaluation as directed by the Market President or Commercial Relationship Managers.
Reviews and analyzes corporate and individual tax returns and financial statements to assess liquidity, leverage, and net worth; determines customer creditworthiness using covenant tools and trend analysis.
Partners with Relationship Managers to secure approvals for credit facility extensions, waivers, restructurings, and other actions necessary to maintain portfolio credit quality.
Prepares and delivers credit presentations to executive and director loan committees, ensuring strict adherence to credit policy, underwriting standards, and requirements for accuracy, timeliness, and transparency.
Evaluates underperforming loans and develop action plans to support customer performance improvement.
Monitors loan portfolio performance closely; identifies, researches, and reports emerging issues to Relationship Managers and senior management. Follows up on delinquent and maturing loans.
Assists Relationship Managers and the Regional President in ensuring customer compliance with loan agreements, including covenants and reporting obligations.
Reviews monthly portfolio reports to confirm accuracy of risk ratings, maturing loans, and problem loan identification.
Verifies accuracy of loan documentation.
Coordinate internal and external audits of the loan portfolio.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree (BA) or equivalent from a four-year college or university. Finance or accounting degrees preferred
7 years’ related experience and/or training in a commercial banking environment, with specific focus on commercial credit analysis and portfolio management preferred.
Demonstrated ability and experience working with and managing middle market C&I commercial banking relationships. Experience working in sponsor finance (PE firms and family offices) and with syndicated credits, preferred.
Ability to advise and work with Commercial Banking RMs to craft proper loan structures on new deals and renewals.
Experience in middle market C&I credit analysis and underwriting, including both asset-based lending and cash flow lending.
Excellent PC skills, including word processing and spreadsheets via Microsoft Office products, Adobe Pro, D&H Credit Quest or similar credit workflow tools.
Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong problem-solving skills and judgment.
Proficiency in commercial loan documentation.
Ability to cooperate and work within a team and across the organization.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to create and present sophisticated reports and findings for upper-level management.
Ability to always maintain a high degree of ethical standards and complete confidentiality.
Regional business travel required.
