Forging Maintenance Technician

VanSpeag Group is sourcing high-level Maintenance Technicians for a staffing augmentation assignment supporting a manufacturing plants across the US. This is a high-priority need for technicians with strong forging equipment expertise to support ongoing operations across all shifts. The ideal candidate is experienced, self-sufficient, and ready to deploy quickly.

ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

● Engagement type: Staffing augmentation (contract), not direct placement

● Location: plants nationwide.

● Contract length: 1–6 months, based on facility need

● Shifts: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift openings — flexibility across shifts is a plus

● Travel: All travel included; reimbursed within 30 working days

● Local/close-area technicians must supply their own tool box

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on forging presses, hammers, and dies.

• Diagnose and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems supporting forging equipment.

• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical malfunctions to minimize unplanned downtime.

• Perform welding and fabrication repairs on structural components and process equipment.

• Support press setup, die changes, and equipment alignment.

• Conduct routine inspections to proactively identify wear and potential failures.

• Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.

• Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures.

• Collaborate with operators and the production team to resolve equipment issues quickly.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

● Demonstrated forging equipment operation and maintenance expertise

● Own tool box required for local/close-area candidates

• Prior experience maintaining forging presses, hydraulic presses, or heavy industrial stamping/forming equipment.

• Strong working knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.

• Welding and fabrication experience (MIG/flux-core).

• Millwright experience (pumps, compressors, gearboxes, conveyors) is a plus.

• PLC troubleshooting experience is a plus.

• Ability to read blueprints and schematics.

• OSHA 10 or equivalent safety training preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

● Technical degree or certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or related field

● Experience with CNC machines, robotic systems, or automated manufacturing equipment

● Advanced electrical troubleshooting skills and PLC programming experience

● Millwright or HVAC certification

● Welding certification (MIG, TIG, or Stick)

● Experience with predictive maintenance technologies (vibration analysis, thermal imaging, etc.)

● CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) experience

● Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma knowledge

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

● Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally

● Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and around moving machinery

● Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods

● Manual dexterity for working with small parts and precision equipment

● Ability to work in varying temperature conditions (hot/cold production environments)
