Purpose:

The Director, Technology will serve as a visionary and strategic thought leader for planning and execution for VRP future technological needs while guiding the processes and teams that deliver on the current company’s technological needs on a daily basis. This includes the current needs of internal and external stakeholders as well as the future needs of the market. The Director, Technology will identify and lead VRP technical projects across our technical and analytics teams with an emphasis on vIMPACT™ and CareTend and will build effective communication channels across all teams to ensure optimal operational effectiveness, efficiency and growth. This role will drive and advise the leadership team on technological direction and the opportunities and considerations these present to a product roadmap. This position reports to the General Manager.


Responsibilities:

  • Setting company technical vision and leading the company’s technological roadmap
  • Developing strategic plans and setting timeframes for evaluation, development, and deployment of all technical, web, and mobile services
  • Working with executive leadership to define the technology-related vision of the company
  • Identifying risks to leaders and suggesting mitigation strategies
  • Working with leaders to provide guidance to technological infrastructure, development, & analytics teams
  • Leading the organization’s data management strategy and team, including database support, reporting, analytics, change management, software integration, and external partner integration
  • Monitoring systems performance and associated procedures, and implementing improvements as necessary
  • Developing and implementing cybersecurity, disaster recovery, and emergency recovery plans
  • Create long-term, multi-year strategic roadman for applications, services, and systems to support all VRP functions
  • Develop and document detailed project timelines, identifying key points of intersection for different stakeholder groups
  • Manage several different initiatives/projects, monitoring their progress, completion, adherence to deadlines, and project deliverables
  • Evaluate current technology processes and systems for their overall operational effectives, operating costs, productivity, upgrade requirements, and other metrics and needs
  • Administer and control the technology budget, finding the right balance of services and cost
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary team members to make sure that all parties are on track with project requirements, deadlines, and schedules
  • Collaborating with department heads, client services, business development, marketing, production, and operations as an advisor of all technologies involved with the company
  • Ensuring technology standards and best practices are met
  • Monitoring web analytics and marketing recommendations that align with business goals
  • Supervising quality assurance process, integration, and system tests
  • Oversee and manage analytics and reporting team responsible for VRP internal and external reporting capabilities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external vendors and service providers, serving as a primary point of contact and subject matter expert to support vendor productivity and accountability
  • Participate in internal company audit process, assess outcomes, and implement action plans as required to maintain a high level of security and recoverability
  • Monitoring performance profiling tools and procedures
  • Ensuring collaboration & coordination across technology department to ensure smooth product delivery
  • Sharing technological visions, opportunities, and risks company-wide
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of systems used in company operations to evaluate the effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement
  • Studying current and new industry trends, technologies, information processing systems, and software development methods, to evaluate the effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement
  • Overseeing the development and deployment of company-wide technology standards and ensuring compliance with overall corporate policies and standards
  • Overseeing and owning technology-related SOPs for the organization.
  • Serving as the organization’s privacy and/or security officer.
  • Ensuring the company’s technological processes and service comply with all requirements, laws, and regulations include HIPPA, as well as supporting company efforts to achieve SOC2 and/or HITRUST certification as deemed appropriate by the business environment.
  • Building, managing, coaching and mentoring direct reports to develop their career growth, serving as an ambassador of Vanscoy Rare’s culture.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 8 - 10 years’ experience in leadership role, technology oversight, or related field
  • 5 years in management or leadership role
  • In-depth understanding of the industry and business of the company
  • Experience with technologies relative to the industry (.NET C#, SQLServer, Angular, Docker, Azure/AWS, Snowflake)
  • Direct experience with IT planning and budget management
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills across environment

Work Environment

VRP offers a hybrid work structure, combining remote work and in-office requirements. The frequency of onsite requirements will vary depending on role, operational needs, meetings, client visits, or team collaboration activities. Employees must be within commuting distance to Pittsburgh, PA, and able to report to the office when needed. We will provide advance notice when possible. This role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. When telecommuting, employees must have reliable internet access to utilize required systems and software required for the position's responsibilities. The amount of time the employee is expected to work per day or pay period will not change while working from home. Employees are responsible for the set-up of their home office environment, including physical set-up, internet connection, phone line, electricity, lighting, comfortable temperature, furniture, etc. Employee’s teleworking space should be separate and distinct from their “home space” and allow for privacy.
