Overview
The Revenue Cycle Collection Specialist is responsible for managing and resolving patient financial responsibility, with a primary focus on collecting outstanding balances and reducing accounts receivable (A/R).
This role works within athenaOne to manage worklists, perform account follow-up, and ensure timely and accurate payment resolution while supporting a positive patient experience.
Responsibilitie
sESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to)
- :Manage and collect outstanding patient balances through phone, portal, and written communicatio
- nEducate patients on balances, insurance responsibility, and payment option
- sEstablish and monitor payment plan
- sWork A/R aging reports with emphasis on patient-responsibility balance
- sResearch and resolve denials, underpayments, and billing discrepancie
- sManage assigned Athena worklists, including Self-Pay, Collections, Refunds, Unapplied Credits, Credit Card errors; return mail/email and patient corresponden
- tProcess patient refunds and resolve credit balance
- sCoordinate with external collections agencies, including account placement, recalls, and reconciliatio
- nManage DPC accounts, including membership billing and follow-up on delinquent account
- sMaintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with HIPAA and applicable collection regulation

Qualificatio
nsREQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
- S:2-5 years of healthcare collections, billing, or accounts receivable experien
- ceExperience with athenaOne or similar syst
