What is the role:
The Chemist is responsible for continuous improvement of existing formulations, assisting in the development of new product lines, providing technical assistance to customers, the input and maintenance of ERP system, assisting with Quality Control lab as needed, assisting with communication between the lab and the executive team.

The team is looking to bring aboard a Chemist who can leverage their experience to help Vanguard continue to evolve and grow within the industrial coatings market.
Who is the team you will be working with:
Vanguard is a family-owned and operated business. You will be working directly with the Technical Director and Senior Chemist, as well as the President, the Vice President & General Counsel, the Vice President of Finance and Operations and Technical Sales Director.
What you will be directly working on:
The role will be primarily responsible for helping to improve our current portfolio of coatings as well as spearheading our expansion into new coatings technologies. This includes, but is not limited to, participation in a comprehensive review of our current portfolio, interfacing and updating the company ERP, and recommending adjustments to formulations to address customer needs.
Also, you will recommend new product development directions as are seen emerging in the field via competitors and customer's current and future requirements.
We are seeking someone who can collaborate, recommend, and help implement policies and best practices in both the lab and production.
Development and maintenance of positive interpersonal relationships within Vanguard is necessary for achieving our team approach toward winning and growth.
What you bring to the role:
- You (ideally) have 10 years of prior experience in an industrial coatings lab
- You have experience with alkyd/acrylic formulations and/or two-component chemistries
- You have a track record of product and/or production innovation and improvements
- You successfully respond to customer problems in a timely manner and proactively seek to resolve problems before they become critical
Knowledge and skills you use confidently:
- Interpersonal Communication- Able to communicate effectively with Lab personnel, executive team members and customers. This includes excellent written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
- Computer Literacy- Able to use MS office, BatchMaster, Gsuite and email programs
- Initiative- Able to effectively and continuously find new and better ways of performing the position. Innovation- Able to develop innovative and creative solutions.
- Technical Knowledge- Able to understand and perform tasks using complex information and technical data.
