About The Role
Vanguard Landing is seeking a warm, organized, and dependable LPN or RN to serve as our Medical Services Manager. This is a hands-on, resident-facing nursing position supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a vibrant residential community.
The Medical Services Manager serves as a trusted nurse for residents while also guiding and training Direct Support Professionals. This is not a desk-only management role. The right person will be visible throughout the community, responsive when health concerns arise, comfortable teaching others, and committed to following medical needs through to resolution.
What You Will Do
Experience supporting adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities; working in supported living, supervised living, assisted living, group homes, or long-term care; using an eMAR system; and teaching or supervising direct support staff is strongly preferred. Experience with seizure disorders, diabetes, G-tube care, mobility needs, skin integrity, nutrition, hydration, or behavioral health supports is also valuable.
ScheduleThis is a full-time position requiring flexibility based on resident needs. The regular schedule is primarily daytime hours but may include occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call responsibilities. Clear communication about availability and coverage is essential.

What You Will Do
- Provide nursing assessment, clinical observation, health education, triage, and follow-up within your scope of practice.
- Respond to changes in residents' health and communicate promptly with physicians, families or guardians, leadership, pharmacies, and other providers as appropriate.
- Build supportive relationships with residents and help them understand and participate in decisions about their health.
- Serve as an approachable clinical resource for DSPs and other team members.
- Train and coach staff on medication administration, seizure response, infection prevention, emergency response, G-tube procedures, and recognition of health changes.
- Oversee medication systems, physician orders, refills, audits, medication rooms, and eMAR documentation, including Impruvon.
- Coordinate appointments, laboratory testing, annual physicals, specialist follow-up, and other required healthcare services.
- Maintain accurate nursing documentation and organized, current medical records.
- Participate in resident admissions and move-ins by reviewing medical information, medications, risks, equipment, and readiness for services.
- Support medical emergencies and provide hands-on assistance when clinically indicated or needed to protect resident safety and dignity.
- Friendly, nurturing, and able to help residents feel safe, respected, heard, and known.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable, with strong follow-through.
- Calm and clinically sound when priorities change or unexpected concerns arise.
- Comfortable teaching, coaching, and giving clear direction to support staff.
- Collaborative, approachable, patient, and able to communicate clearly with residents, families, staff, and healthcare providers.
- Flexible and willing to help strengthen systems as Vanguard Landing continues to grow.
- Current Virginia LPN or RN license in good standing.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- At least two years of experience coordinating or overseeing healthcare for a group of individuals, preferably in a residential or community-based setting.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Strong written, verbal, organizational, computer, and documentation skills.
- Ability to complete all required employment clearances and screenings.
