Position Summary: Supervises, coaches, and coordinates activities for employees engaged in upholstery and trimming for upholstered furniture.
Position Responsibilities:
Observe workers performing duties to ensure quality standards are being met.
Answers questions for upholsters to ensure they understand company standards.
Reviews production schedules to determine work schedules for department.
Keeps up with inventory supplies and reorders when necessary; stocks shelves with supplies from cage.
Handles employee reviews, corrective actions, attendance reports and other employee related issues as needed.
Facilitates the flow of repairs.
Has weekly safety/information meetings with department.
Supervise 30 employees
Provides support in clean up, cushion cut downs, and moving off schedule through the plant.
Responsible for interviewing to determine most qualified applicants for any openings.
Provides appropriate orientation for new employee by using supervisor’s check list as well as ongoing coaching.
Responsible for rewarding performance by gift cards or merit increases for exceptional employee performance and/or increased responsibility.
Assigns duties to employees and adequately explains how the duties are to be completed.
Works closely with HR department to make sure any departmental/job title changes are communicated.
Maintains neat and orderly work station.
Responsible for making sure the department maintains adequate 6S standards
Wears required safety glasses, works safely and reports unsafe conditions to Safety Manager.
Performs other duties as required by Plant Manager.
Essential Skills and Experience:
Must be knowledgeable in furniture manufacturing with ability to train new employees.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel proficient.
Must have exceptional communication skills to provide assistance and support to create environment that fosters motivation and development.
Must be confidential in all matters.
Must have the ability to enforce all company policies consistently
Valued but not Required Skills and Experience:
AS400 experience.
Physical demands and work environment:
Lift / Carry: Frequently lifting less than 20 lbs.; occasionally lifting in excess of 35 lbs.; team lift greater
weights.
Push / Pull: Frequently pushing or pulling fabric to/from/on workstation weighing less than 10 lbs.
Sitting: Must be able to sit 4 hours and walk/stand for 4 hours. Alternates frequently between sitting, standing, walking for majority of work schedule
Reach / Handle / Grasp: Occasionally throughout day
Tool Usage: Required to operate a sewing machine and use scissors on/off during entire shift to cut welt cords and clip corners.
Vision: Color Determination, observation of patterns, fabric textures and dye tones for quality control.
Near Acuity: Requires close vision of less than 3 feet, with or without corrective lenses, for precision.
