Duties
- Review construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to interpret project scope accurately
- Develop detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects using estimating software such as HeavyBid or similar tools
- Analyze material requirements from blueprints and technical drawings to determine quantities and costs
- Manage project budgets by tracking costs, controlling expenses, and identifying potential cost savings opportunities
- Negotiate with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to secure favorable pricing and terms
- Prepare comprehensive bid proposals that include detailed breakdowns of labor, materials, equipment, and overhead costs
- Collaborate with project managers and clients to ensure estimates align with project goals and contractual requirements
- Utilize construction management software like Bluebeam, Smartsheet, and Xactimate to facilitate accurate estimating and document management
- Conduct construction site visits when necessary to gather on-the-ground insights for more precise estimates
- Review contracts and ensure all estimating activities comply with company policies and industry standards
Experience
- Proven experience as a construction estimator within the commercial construction industry
- Strong knowledge of construction management software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Xactimate, or equivalent tools
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex construction blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications
- Familiarity with estimating material requirements from blueprints and managing project budgets effectively
- Excellent negotiation skills with vendors, subcontractors, and clients to achieve optimal pricing outcomes
- Hands-on experience with cost control techniques including material cost estimating and budget management
- Construction site experience is highly desirable for better understanding of on-the-ground realities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel spreadsheets for estimating data analysis) is essential
- Knowledge of contracts, scope of work documentation, and construction industry standards is required
