We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate High School/Middle School Counselor to join our educational institution's student support team. The counselor will play a pivotal role in promoting the academic, social, emotional, and personal development of our students. The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of adolescent psychology, and the ability to provide guidance and support to students, parents, and faculty members.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION:

  1. Educational Staff Associate (ESA) counseling certification required.
  2. Masters Degree with emphasis in high school/middle school counseling.
  3. Demonstrated interest, commitment, and ability to work with students, staff, and community at the high school/middle school level.
  4. Demonstrated experience in working effectively with a wide range of student abilities, both academically and socially.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a counseling team.
  6. Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  7. Knowledge of current high school graduation requirements for Washington State.
  8. Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in counseling.
  9. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and listening skills.
  10. Empathy, compassion, and a nonjudgmental approach to working with students.
  11. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  12. Bilingual preferred

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  Successful experience as a school counselor.
  •  Interest in and evidence of continued professional growth in the area of school counseling
  •  Experience with college, career and post-secondary education and counseling.

WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF:

  1. Strong understanding of adolescent development, psychology, and counseling techniques.
  2. Test administration and test result interpretation to students, parents and others.
  3. Community agency and community resource use.
  4. Individual and group counseling techniques.
  5. Multicultural education and counseling.
  6. Helping students with social and emotional needs.
  7. Intervention techniques common to school counseling.
  8. Special Education and Section 504 laws, regulations, handicapping conditions, and  Individual Education Plans.
  9. College and vocational school admissions, scholarships, and financial aid forms.
  10. Provide students with career, college and post-secondary education instruction, guidance and connections.
  11. Development of and support for programs of study for strengthening High School and Beyond planning for students.
  12. Coordinating services with community agencies with school-based services.
  13. ASCA national model.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Adheres to Moses Lake School District’s vision and mission, is a lifelong learner and is receptive to positive growth and change.
  2. Familiar with high school and middle school level educational philosophy and scheduling including effective use of technologies and research-based methodologies.
  3. Aide students in course and subject selection and effectively balance classes and keep track of schedules.
  4. Maintain student records and protect their confidentiality.
  5. Initiate, assemble, maintain and interpret accurate health records, attendance records, cumulative progress records, activity records and uniform transcript records for students.
  6. Work to resolve students’ educational handicaps.
  7. Plan alternative programs and up-to-date training for all level of students.
  8. Remain readily available to students so as to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding and maturity.
  9. Work with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relations, health and emotional adjustment.
  10. Familiar with concerns of high school level student’s parents.
  11. Able to meet with parents, whenever necessary, including before and after the regular workday.
  12. Arrange and facilitate conferences with teachers and parents as appropriate
  13. Provide career orientation, exploration, occupational information and educational planning to parents, staff and students
  14. Work with Special Education staff to provide programming for special education students.
  15. Actively participate in designing counseling services to facilitate the transition from middle school to high school and from high school to post-secondary education and employment.
  16. Help develop new programs that better meet the needs of students.
  17. Guide students in their participation in school and community activities.
  18. Provide individual and group career counseling services.
  19. Other duties as assigned
  20. Must have excellent attendance.
  21. Connect students and families to counseling agencies, resources and services in the community.
  22. Additional responsibilities as assigned by the building administration.
