What are the responsibilities and job description for the Privacy Lawyer position at Vandil?
Vandil is an AI-native legal platform working with technology startups on privacy compliance, AI governance, and commercial contracts. We have active demand from San Francisco-based clients and are looking for a California-admitted lawyer to be the primary legal professional on those engagements.
This is not a full-time role. We're looking for someone with an existing practice who has capacity for a small number of additional client matters — a few hours a week to start, with the potential to grow as we do.
Our platform handles the heavy lifting including research, first-draft documents and compliance checking. Your role is to be the lawyer: reviewing work before it goes to clients, exercising legal judgment where it matters, and being the person clients engage with as their California attorney.
Initial work will centre on privacy and data compliance matters such as privacy policies, CCPA compliance assessments, and related commercial documents for early-stage tech companies. Simple, well-scoped work with most of the drafting done.
Who we're looking for
- Active State Bar of California membership — this is the only hard requirement.
- Some background in privacy, tech, or commercial law (helpful but not essential).
- Comfortable working with a remote, internationally-based team.
- Interested in how AI is changing legal practice. You don't need to be a technologist, but curiosity matters.
How this would work
You would take on client engagements directly as the supervising attorney. We support the work; you own the relationship and the legal responsibility. We're open to discussing what the commercial arrangement looks like — we want it to work for both sides, and we're flexible on structure.
If you're a solo practitioner or at a small firm with some spare capacity, this is designed to fit around your existing practice, not compete with it.

Send a short note to hello@vandil.ai — no formal application needed. Tell us about your practice and what you're looking for. We'll take it from there.
