Vandeveer Garzia, an experienced 123 year old civil defense firm, is growing our firm in Troy, Michigan. This full-time role will allow an attorney to handle a variety of civil defense matters for a range of clients, including corporations, government entities, insurers, and individuals. This role will include mentorship from other attorneys, and the opportunity to mentor other employees in the position.
The ideal candidate for this role will have an interest in handling civil defense litigation matters, will be prepared to handle a case load of files in several areas of the law, and will receive and provide direction and mentoring to other attorneys and individuals involved in claims.
Qualifications for the role:
- Admitted to the Bar of the State of Michigan
- Civil litigation experience is preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Must have organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work and information to maximize productivity
- Negotiation skills are needed, including the ability to negotiate settlement agreements and compromise agreements
- Decision making ability is important to arrive at a specific determination after carefully considering all factors
- Investigative skills are helpful to allow the candidate to follow-up on step-by-step inquiries and to reach legal conclusions
- Legal research skills including the ability to research and write effective briefs advocating a position
- The ability to work in a team and to assist fellow attorneys
Salary and Benefits:
Salary is based upon the experience of the candidate and is competitive in the market place. The benefits of this position include medical, dental, vision, HSA match, 401K retirement plan with employer contributions and discretionary profit sharing, cell phone reimbursement monthly, short term and long term disability, insurance, life insurance, vacation and sick pay. Bar dues and malpractice insurance are paid for by the Firm.
