Vanderlande Industries is a leading supplier of baggage handling systems and services baggage handling systems worldwide. Vanderlande is responsible for the Service & Maintenance of the Baggage Handling System at the Portland International Jetport (PMW).
Position Summary
Maintenance Technicians are the main responder to emergency situations. They carry out preventive and corrective maintenance at the mechanical and electrical level of the material handling system. This will be done during the dwell periods in between the flights and in the other non-operational hours.
Responsibilities
The work environment/physical requirements described here are representative of those a team member may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job Technicians work in the secured baggage handling areas, in repair stations, or on airfields. They often must meet strict deadlines to maintain flight schedules.
Team members frequently bend, stoop, and reach from ladders and scaffolds while performing the duties of this job. Team members are frequently required to reach with hands and arms. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day. Team members must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Team members will be lifting parts and tools related to repairs and inspections of conveyor systems and passenger boarding bridges. Occasional outdoor work. Infrequent travel (5 to 15% Max)
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is working with and exposed to the baggage handling system, passenger boarding bridges, mechanical parts, vibration, occasional loud noise and adverse weather.

Responsibilities
- Works with Maintenance Technicians and Lead Maintenance Technician on all maintenance items, including inspection, repairs, break downs and preventive maintenance – inspection, adjustment, cleaning, replacement.
- Reporting through CMMS
- Attending stoppages, breakdowns, bag jams
- Assist with/Learn how to inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical systems
- Learn how/when to communicate with various parties on the work performed and present status of all systems.
- Assist with inventory counts
- React to calls and/or messages from the Control Room, Lead Tech, Manager or Jetport Operations Center in an expedient manner.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- General mechanical and electrical troubleshooting/problem solving skills are helpful
- Use of basic hand tools and safe work practices
- Valid drivers' license
- 1 year work experience in an industrial manufacturing environment, material handling environment (baggage handling, material, warehouse, distribution, etc.)
- Willingness to comply and cooperate with FAA, TSA and all other authority having jurisdiction
- Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (ie., Maximo, SAP, etc.)
- Familiar with LOTO and safety procedures
- Ability to pass 10-year background checks to the extent required by TSA and airport authorities is required.
- Must be able to attain and sustain an Airport ID Badge/ CBP Seal.
- Flexibility with time, able to shift priorities quickly based on staffing, customer and system needs
- Team player with strong verbal and written communication skills
- Customer service oriented
- Proactive with strong work ethic and initiative, who would like to grow and develop within the organization.
- Working knowledge of computers and equipment
- Learn/develop the ability to solve problems under pressure
