Job SummaryAs a Steam Boiler Technician, you will be our go-to expert for diagnosing, servicing, maintaining, and replacing residential and commercial steam boiler systems across the Chicago area. You will handle everything from seasonal preventative maintenance to emergency troubleshooting, ensuring our clients' heating systems run safely and at peak efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Inspect & Diagnose: Troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical issues on various steam boiler models.
- Maintenance: Perform routine preventative maintenance, including skimming, low-water cutoff testing, flushing, and pressure checks.
- Installations & Replacements: Safely remove old units and install new, high-efficiency steam boilers, controls, and near-boiler piping according to local codes.
- Customer Consultation: Explain technical issues to homeowners and commercial property managers clearly, providing honest recommendations and upfront options.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to industry safety standards, gas codes, and company protocols.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate digital logs of work performed, parts used, and system diagnostic readings.
- Experience: 3 years of hands-on experience specializing in residential and/or commercial steam boiler systems.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of steam heating theory, near-boiler piping configurations, low-water cutoffs, automatic feeders, and vapor systems.
- Licensing: Valid plumbing or specialized heating/HVAC credentials preferred.
- Driving Record: Valid driver's license with a clean driving history.
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and a clean, professional demeanor in clients' homes and businesses.
- Physical Ability: Capability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in typical basement/boiler room environments.
