What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early College Liaison, Career and College Promise Advisor position at Vance-Granville Community College?

In accordance with the organizational chart and overall plan of Vance-Granville Community College, the Early College Liaison reports to the Dean of K-12 Partnerships and Warren Campus. The Liaison is responsible for the collaborative development of schedules, policies, and procedures for the Early College High Schools in partnership with Vance-Granville Community College (VGCC) and Vance, Granville, Louisburg, and Franklin County Public Schools. The Liaison is responsible for promoting the visibility of instructional programs at VGCC by attending community events and presentations on current educational issues in the respective communities.

This position is assigned to the VGCC Franklin Campus in Louisburg, NC; however, some travel to other counties in the college’s service area is possible. Consistent with VGCC’s Teleworking Policy, this position is eligible for up to 1 day per week of telework after the first 9 months of employment.

  • Schedule Coordination:
    • Assists in developing four or five-year plans of study combining secondary and postsecondary coursework to ensure the attainment of an associate’s degree or two years of transferable college credit. Requests and schedules courses that satisfy NC high school pathway and graduation requirements for students who are enrolled in early college.
    • Assists in the development of schedules that support gradual transitions into increasing levels of independence in postsecondary work.
    • Implements the college registration process each semester and term:
      • Implements a registration process for early college and non-early college high school students in Career and College Promise (CCP) Pathways.
      • Ensures students meet pathway and course eligibility requirements.
      • Registers all students for college courses in Colleague.
      • Assists students with scheduling placement testing, when necessary.
  • Request courses within CCP Pathway offerings on the campuses of K-12 partnering high schools.
  • Works with secondary (counselors and principal) and postsecondary staff (Academic Deans, Department Chairs, & Program Heads) to ensure coordination of high school and college schedules that allow availability of required courses.
  • Monitor Early College student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress in college courses.
  • Monitor CCP student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress in college courses.
  • Policy Development:
  • Assists in development of areas of Early College Student Handbook communication college attendance, grading procedures, behavior and code of conduct, and access to college facilities and resources (library, computer labs, etc.)
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures for the placement of students into postsecondary courses with consideration of college assessment, EOC test scores, portfolio development, and alternative assessments.
  • Assists in developing and revising CCP forms and marketing material, as needed.
  • Communication Facilitator:
  • Acts as mediator in any conflict that may occur involving students, faculty, or staff of both institutions.
  • Serves as the primary source of communication for the college faculty, staff, and students concerning the Early College High Schools and CCP Pathways for Non-Early College High Schools.
  • Conducts informal meetings with college instructors teaching Early College High School students and CCP students. (focus/promote core concepts & team collaboration)
  • Participates in formal and informal meetings with other colleges and school systems interested in starting Early Colleges.
  • Shares important Early College and CCP highlights for inclusion in Vance-Granville Community College communications.
  • Establishes and maintains necessary relationships with area high school counselors, secondary school personnel, area colleges, local businesses, and non-profit organizations to ensure open communication and exchange of information for all prospective students/clients.
  • Participate in formal and informal meetings with high schools interested in enrolling their students in CCP Pathways
  • Provide CCP student registrations and grade reports each semester and term to Non- Early College High School and Homeschool Counselor and/or Data Manager.
  • Student Support:
  • Maintains open lines of communication with students’ instructors.
  • Provides information throughout each semester to Early College and CCP/Non-Early College principal, counselors, and/or parents regarding students’ performance in college courses.
  • Communicates in parent-teacher conferences when needed.
  • Meets with students to discuss academic performance and develop educational goals.
  • Assist counselors in developing educational goal plans based on student interests, strengths & weaknesses.
  • Apprise college administration of significant student incidents or concerns.
  • Provides information to community college faculty/ADA coordinator regarding the instructional needs of special students.
  • Coordinates Early College student involvement in special campus events, clubs and sports for the college.
  • Assists in the development of a Career Development plan for students.
  • Assists in the development of recruitment and retention strategies for sustainability purposes.
  • Conducts Early College Freshmen Orientation in collaboration with the Early College High School.
  • Conducts parent/student information sessions and/or orientations for CCP students.
  • Collect and process CCP admissions paperwork as required by state mandates.
  • Advise and register CCP students for curriculum and/or continuing education coursework in collaboration with Non- Early College high school or Homeschool counselor.
  • Review, process, and submit special permission requests for CCP students to continue taking college courses once completing their initial CCP Pathway.
  • Faculty/Staff Support:
  • Educates and orients Early College High School and CCP/Non-Early College faculty about Vance-Granville Community College procedures and policies.
  • Assists high school faculty in accessing campus resources, speakers, professional development opportunities, etc.
  • Facilities Management:
  • Arranges use of college facilities for the Early College High School (auditoriums/classrooms/equipment for special meetings/events).
  • Contacts necessary college personnel for special requests related to building/classroom/network usage.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean of K-12 Partnerships and Warren Campus.

Education And Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Related Area
  • Effective oral/written communication/presentation skills
  • Customer service skills sufficient to meet the VGCC Vanguard Vision commitment and service standards.

Education And Experience Preferred

  • Previous experience with an Early College High School
  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
