Control Booth Operator (PT)

The salary range is listed above. Starting salary will depend on qualifications and experience.

The Control Booth Operator performs inmate detention and care work in the County Detention Center. Work includes the observation of inmates inside the Detention Center and related care and recordkeeping requirements; and employees may be assigned to any work area within the facility and may also be assigned to accompany inmates to court or other assigned locations. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the shift supervisor on the assigned shift, and is evaluated through observation.  

• Monitors the movement of jail personnel, offenders, and visitors within the jail utilizing closed circuit television, radios, and intercom system.  
• Controls the movement of jail personnel, offenders, and visitors within the jail by controlling the electric doors under specific guidelines.  
• Reports unauthorized movements, emergency situations, or unusual activities to designated personnel for response.  
• Summons deputies, fire department, and medical assistance as deemed necessary. 
• Provides training for newly hired booth operators. 
• Assists secretaries in answering phones and directing calls to appropriate areas. 
• Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience:

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

Licenses or Certifications:

• Must meet the minimum standards set by the State of North Carolina for detention facility personnel.

Special Requirements: 

• Must be a United States Citizen.
• Must be at least twenty (20) years of age.
• No felony convictions or serious misdemeanors.
• Must pass a drug screen.
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including shift work, weekends, holidays, and emergencies.

• Ability to use computers. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work requires mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and observe people and things for security purposes; and operate electronic control panels and view computer screens. 
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a secure work environment. The employee(s) is subject to hazards associated with custody work including working in inside environments, exposure to various hazards such as noise and a variety of physical conditions and close quarters.
