Position Overview
The Head Golf Coach at Vance County High School will be responsible for leading, developing, and managing the boys’ and girls’ golf program. The coach will foster an environment of sportsmanship, skill development, and academic success while promoting the values of teamwork, discipline, and leadership consistent with the mission of VCHS and the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA).
Key Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and supervise practices and competitions for the VCHS golf team.
Teach fundamental golf skills, rules, and strategies to student-athletes of varying skill levels.
Emphasize academic achievement, character development, and positive behavior both on and off the course.
Ensure compliance with all VCHS, district, and NCHSAA policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements.
Collaborate with the Athletic Director to schedule matches, secure transportation, and manage budgets.
Communicate effectively with parents, athletes, staff, and community members.
Promote safety and ensure proper supervision of student-athletes during practices, matches, and team travel.
Maintain inventory and care of golf equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes, demonstrating integrity, respect, and professionalism at all times.
Encourage student-athlete participation, recruitment, and retention for the program.
Build relationships with local golf courses and community partners to enhance program opportunities.
Qualifications
Previous coaching experience (golf preferred) at the high school, collegiate, or competitive level.
Strong knowledge of golf techniques, rules, and training strategies.
Demonstrated ability to teach, mentor, and motivate student-athletes.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Commitment to academic success and student development.
Must meet all Vance County Schools and NCHSAA coaching certification requirements, including CPR/First Aid training and background clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Playing experience in competitive golf (high school, collegiate, or professional).
Prior experience managing a golf program or working with youth athletics.
Ability to build and sustain a program that develops both novice and advanced players.
