Band Director Vance County High School

Position Summary:

Vance County High School is seeking a passionate, dynamic, and dedicated Band Director to lead and grow a comprehensive high school band program. The ideal candidate will inspire students musically and personally while promoting excellence in performance, discipline, teamwork, and school spirit.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, organize, and direct all aspects of the high school band program, including but not limited to:

  • Marching Band

  • Concert Band

  • Pep Band

  • Small ensembles

  • Solo opportunities

• Develop and implement an engaging curriculum aligned with North Carolina Standards for Music Education.

• Prepare students for performances, competitions, festivals, and community events.

• Collaborate with school leadership, athletic staff, and community organizations to support school and district events.

• Foster an inclusive, supportive environment that encourages student participation and growth.

• Maintain inventory and care of all musical instruments, uniforms, and equipment.

• Oversee fundraising efforts and budget management in coordination with administration.

• Provide leadership and supervision during rehearsals, after-school practices, and travel to events.

• Serve as a mentor and role model, maintaining high expectations for student conduct and performance.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

• Valid North Carolina teaching license (or ability to obtain) in Music Education.

• Previous successful experience directing a school band preferred.

• Strong knowledge of instrumental music pedagogy and ensemble performance.

• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with competition-level marching band shows.

• Familiarity with music technology tools and software.

• Ability to recruit and retain students across grade levels.

• Experience managing a booster organization is a plus.
