ABOUT THE POSITION
Structural Engineer - Vertical Design | Hybrid
In this position, you would serve an important role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of building structures and existing building renovation, with a current focus on transportation-related buildings such as rail and transit stations, parking facilities, and highway and railroad overbuilds. The ideal candidate should possess a "can-do" attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment. The position includes significant opportunities for personal and professional development and growth within VHB's emerging building design practice.
Responsibilities
- Preliminary and final structural design
- Technical oversight and review
- Monitoring of project budgets and schedules
- Assist in the field with design inspection
- Calculate quantities and develop construction cost estimates
- Prepare contract documents and design plans
- Perform engineering design and detailing of vertical facilities
Skills & Abilities
- Must possess strong technical skills with knowledge of various building structural systems and codes
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proactive and self-motived, with excellent attention to detail and quality
- Ability to collaborate with a team of staff working remotely
- Enthusiasm to learn, seek out opportunities, and take responsibility
- Motivated to mentor junior staff
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in the use of engineering and BIM software such as STAAD.pro, RISA, RAM Steel, Tekla, MathCAD, Revit, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required, master's degree preferred (may substitute for 1 year of experience)
- 5-8 years of professional experience, depending on level of education, in the structural engineering analysis and design of buildings and facilities required
- EIT required, NY Licensed PE (Professional Engineer) expected or ability to obtain within 6 months, SE a strong plus
Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New York City is $97,000-125,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
