Automation Technician - Field Service Technician

Van Doren Sales is seeking a motivated and skilled Automation Technician to join our service team in the Greater Rochester, NY Metropolitan Area. This is a critical role that directly supports our customers in the fruit and produce packing industry. As an Automation Technician, you will focus on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing fruit and produce handling/packaging/grading equipment at customer sites. Preferred experience includes; designing, programming, and commissioning industrial automation systems. A background centered on Rockwell platforms, PC Software and Hardware repair, PLC programming, HMI development, electrical system testing, and full project execution from design through startup is preferred. Experience with MCCs, VFDs, motor controls, and preventive maintenance across optical sorting and produce process environments will move you to the top of the list.
What You’ll Do:
- Perform maintenance, and repairs on PC's and Software on Mech, Tech, and Ag equipment
- Diagnose issues and provide effective solutions in real-time
- Deliver exceptional on-site customer service and support
- Maintain detailed service records and communicate feedback to the Service Manager
- Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure customer satisfaction.
What We’re Looking For:
- Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated and able to work independently in the field
- Excellent communication and customer facing demeanor
- Previous experience in field service or mechanical systems is preferred
- Willingness to travel and a valid driver’s license
- Knowledge of electrical components and systems
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electromechanical systems
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in the fresh fruit and vegetable processing industry
- PC Software and Hardware expertise
- PLC, Optical Sorting, Vision: sizing and sorting technology experience
- Print applications
- VFD & Servo Systems

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour
