What are the responsibilities and job description for the DIRECTOR OF CONSTRUCTION position at Van Daele Homes?

Supervises: Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, Laborers, Buyer Services Representatives and Subcontractors
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE: To oversee all field activities for all Van Daele of Northern California projects, in relation to schedules, quality control, safety and superintendent supervision. This position includes performing the duties of a superintendent, when needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Oversee all Superintendents and their projects and report directly to the Vice President of Operations.
- Prepare bi-weekly labor allocations to ensure projects are staffed appropriately.
- Ensure that Superintendents follow company policy and maintain required job site paperwork and documentation.
- Conduct Superintendent training.
- Review projects and determine where the project is in relation to the project schedule.
- Work with Superintendents and Senior Project Managers to ensure schedules are met and to work through any delays.
- Walk projects to ensure that work is being completed to the highest standards.
- Assist Superintendents and Senior Project Managers on dispute resolutions with subcontractors and vendors.
- Maintain safe job sites with current safety practices and confirm the consistency of safety meetings.
- Ensure proper signage is posted on jobsites at all times.
- Review and ensure subcontractors are kept updated.
- Oversee Superintendent’s supervision of field employees and subcontractors.
- Participate in weekly project update meetings with Senior Project Managers and department heads.
- Assist Senior Project Managers with due diligence items related to schedules, general conditions, and staffing plans.
- Performs other assignments as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Construction Superintendent, General Superintendent experience is required
- Capable in reading and interpreting building plans and specifications
- Ability to develop schedules and successfully manage personnel, vendors, and subcontractors
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Skilled in multi-tasking and time management
- Must be detail oriented
- Must be proficient using Microsoft Office Suite and able to use smart phones, tablets, lap tops, etc.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean DMV record

Salary : $175,000 - $220,000
