Job Goal(s):
The overall job goal of the Special Education Bus Aide is to supervise children on the bus so the driver can devote his/her full attention to driving.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Certification:
Completion of State School Bus Driver Training Program required and ability to qualify for bus driver’s license
Work Experience:
Previous experience as a school bus aide or bus driver preferred
Skills:
- Exhibit satisfactory performance on both a written and driving competency test
- Possess the physical strength to perform the required tasks
Esential Job Functions:
- Assure safety belts are worn by all students riding their bus.
- Sweep and clean interior of bus as frequently as necessary to maintain cleanliness; this includes, but is not limited to washing windows, mopping floor, dusting and wiping down seats and driver’s area.
- Discharge students from bus in the presence of a teacher or aide.
- Ability to implement the principles of first aide and be prepared to administer emergency treatment, when necessary.
- Maintain order and discipline on the part of every student.
- Permit a child to leave a bus only on a regular stop, except upon written request of parents or direction of the school authorities.
- Prevent children from hitching on bus when skating, riding bicycles, etc.
- Prepare an accident report immediately after every accident involving school bus passengers.
- Assist students on and off buses, as needed.
- Assist the school, when necessary, in communicating with the home and vice-versa.
- Notify the driver and the office in the event of absence.
- Substitute for bus driver, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
- ?Regular and reliable, in person attendance.
Terms of Employment:
As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren ISD Board of Education.
