Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated CNC Lathe Setup/Operator to join our precision manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC turning centers to produce precision metal components, working primarily in steel with occasional brass and aluminum. You will run our Tsugami M08SY-II turn-mills, equipped with sub-spindles, live tooling, and LNS bar feeders, taking ownership of the turning cell from setup through finished part. Your expertise in machining, blueprint reading, and CNC programming will ensure the highest quality standards are met while maintaining efficient production workflows.
Responsibilities
- Perform complete setups on CNC turning centers, including tooling, collets, work and tool offsets, bar feeder loading and alignment, and part catcher configuration
- Develop, edit, and troubleshoot CNC programs at the machine control and in CAM software
- Prove out new programs safely and efficiently, verifying first articles against print requirements
- Operate CNC lathes to produce precision components to specified tolerances and surface finishes
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T callouts to determine machining operations
- Select appropriate tooling, inserts, speeds, and feeds for the material and operation
- Monitor production runs and make adjustments for tool wear, chip control, and dimensional drift
- Perform in-process inspection using calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, and optical comparator
- Maintain setup sheets, tool lists, and program documentation so jobs can be repeated consistently
- Organize and maintain lathe tooling, and communicate tooling and material needs in advance
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on assigned machines and maintain a clean, orderly work area
- Support milling operations as needed during periods of lighter turning workload
- Follow all safety procedures and quality standards
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 3 years of CNC lathe setup and operation experience in a production machining environment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Ability to read, interpret, and edit G-code at the machine control
- Proficiency in blueprint reading and working knowledge of GD&T
- Experience with bar-fed turning operations
- Competence with precision measuring instruments and in-process inspection methods
- Working knowledge of tooling selection, speeds and feeds, and machining fundamentals
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision
Preferred
- Experience with Tsugami turning centers, or comparable Y-axis / sub-spindle turn-mills
- CAM programming experience in Fusion 360 or Mastercam
- LNS or comparable bar feeder setup and troubleshooting experience
- Experience machining free-machining and prehardened steels
- CNC mill setup experience (Haas or Brother)
- Experience developing or maintaining setup documentation and program libraries
